About the Role

The Senior Paralegal - Litigation & Trial (IP) is an integral part of Latham's Legal Professional and Paralegal team. This role will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to attorneys and paralegal teams throughout all phases of litigation in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group, while leading operational management of IP litigation cases and/or ITC cases, supporting case teams in all phases, including document review, case file organization, exhibits, witness lists, trial binders, and trial preparation. This role will be located in either our Washington, D.C. or Orange Couty office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining case calendars, monitoring deadlines, and coordinating with case teams and support departments
  • Coordinating the discovery process, including document collection, review, and analysis for production using e-discovery platforms
  • Supporting invalidity and infringement contentions, claim construction briefing, Markman hearing preparation, and associated productions
  • Preparing legal documents-including pleadings, motions, exhibits, discovery requests/responses, petition filings, and correspondence-in accordance with court rules, deadlines, and procedural requirements
  • Conducting IP research using USPTO databases, Google Patents, and other public and private databases
  • Preparing witneses for depositions and client interviews by assembling witness binders containing interview memos, digests, and relavent documents
  • Preparing, tracking and organizing all materials for hearings and trials; coordinating logistics and providing on-site support; proofreading, cite-checks, and Bluebooks court briefs and discovery documents
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains 

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal filing requirements, document management, productions, fact and expert witness preparation, Bluebooking, cite-checking, and procedural requirements
  • Exhibit proficiency with patent terminology, citations, USPTO Patent Center, and ability to obtain patents, prosecution histories, and prior art
  • Display an understanding of common litigation practices, procedures, regulations, and workflow

And have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or signed declaration, if located in a California office
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of related law firm experience as a paralegal
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of intellectual property litigation experience
  • Experience with PTAB, ITC, and/or Federal Circuit, preferably
  • Arbitration/trial experience
  • Appellate experience, preferably
  • Experience with Hatch-Waxman IP litigation and life sciences IP litigation, preferably
