Deckhand Positions Available - Are you a Big Island Resident? Join Our Crew!
We're currently hiring full-time and part-time Deckhands to join our crew aboard the Fair Wind II and Hula Kai vessels. Positions typically work 3-4 days per week with 8-11-hour shifts, and both seasonal and year-round opportunities are available. This is a great role for someone who loves the ocean, enjoys working with people, and thrives in a fun, team-oriented environment.
We are a family-owned and operated company with over 55 years in business, and we take pride in creating memorable experiences along the Kona coast. Our vessels operate with strong environmental values, including being a plant-based vessel, because we believe in protecting the ocean we work in every day. Our goal is simple: to help keep the fish, coral, and reef ecosystems healthy so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
The Deckhand works as part of the crew under the supervision of the Captain and 1st Mate to help deliver an exceptional experience for our guests. Responsibilities include assisting with snorkel cruise operations, supporting guests in and out of the water, sharing knowledge about marine life and the reef ecosystem, maintaining the vessel, and helping ensure every cruise runs smoothly. Providing outstanding customer service, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere, and maintaining a safe environment for guests and crew are top priorities.
Strong swimming skills are required, along with the ability to free-dive to approximately 15 feet to secure moorings. The position also requires moderate to heavy lifting and the ability to work long days aboard a vessel on the open ocean. Candidates should be reliable, energetic, and comfortable working as part of a close-knit team that supports one another on and off the water.
Pay is commensurate with experience. We also offer training and growth opportunities within the company, as well as paid volunteer time for community outreach.
If you're passionate about the ocean, enjoy working with people from around the world, and want to be part of a crew that cares deeply about the Kona coast and the experiences we create for our guests, we'd love to meet you.
