Plant Laborer/Deckhand
Southern West Virginia Asphalt, Inc. is currently seeking a Plant Laborer/Deckhand in the Parkersburg area. The qualified candidate will be responsible for unloading material from barges, running a loader and a skid steer, as well as decking. Shoveling and hand brooming will also be required. While not offloading barges, the candidate is required to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the asphalt plant, as well as various manual tasks including but not limited to the following: greasing the plant and keeping the plant working efficiently, checking and maintaining proper oil levels, laboring and minor servicing of the plant as needed, performing ground maintenance, and running the loader.
  • Performs basic maintenance and service on asphalt plant as required.
  • Welding/cutting torch experience preferred but not required.
  • Maintain daily/weekly maintenance schedule and upkeep of asphalt plant and surrounding area.
  • Shoveling, sweeping, operation of high-pressure water hose, painting, mechanical assistance, lifting, pushing and pulling various objects. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
  • Ability to operate a loader and skid steer preferred but not required.
  • Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completions to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
  • Attitude/cooperation: always maintain courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, and the general public.
  • Occasional night/weekend work when required by schedule.
  • Must pass a drug screening and background check.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Valid drivers license required.
