Job description

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
The Debate Coach will provide leadership, mentorship, instruction, motivation, and support to the Debate Team. The goal and objective of the Debate Team is the cultivation of informed thought, in line with the Biblical directive from 2 Timothy 1:7. Through a focus on training and involvement in competitive debate, the Debate Team seeks to fulfill this charge by providing valuable experience in public speaking, application of logic to complex issues, and improved rhetorical expression.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least four years of debate leadership experience.
  • At least two years of experience with the International Public Debate Association.
  • Preferably, at least one National Championship Title awarded by the International Public Debate Association.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with DBU's vision, mission, and values.
  • Administer a competitive program through organizing, supervising, and maintaining a schedule of practices and events, coordinating lectures, scrimmages, and drills, and instructing student-athletes in debate strategies and rhetorical principles.
  • Recruit and enroll a roster size agreed upon with the Senior Vice President.
  • Host, coordinate, and recruit for annual on-campus, intercollegiate debate tournament.
  • Assign and manage student leadership team.
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes for the debate program.
  • Be active in all university fundraising and related professional activities.
  • Be supportive of all team members.
  • Hold membership in appropriate national associations and be active in related professional activities.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the campus.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a part-time position and will require flexibility. Travel is frequently required throughout the year for tournaments.
WORK LOCATION:
The position will work on the main campus, located at 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211
  • Must be a Christian and a member of a church that holds to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing in the New and Old Testaments of the Holy Bible.
