Dealership information

What is a dealership?

Dealerships are businesses authorized to sell new or used vehicles, such as cars, trucks, or motorcycles, on behalf of manufacturers or other sellers. They often provide additional services like financing, warranty repairs, and routine maintenance. Dealerships act as the primary point of contact between customers and vehicle manufacturers, helping buyers choose, purchase, and maintain their vehicles. They may specialize in specific brands or offer a range of different makes and models.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a car dealership salesperson, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Car Dealership Salesperson, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, point-of-sale systems, and dealership inventory tools is essential. Exceptional communication, negotiation skills, and a customer-oriented mindset help build trust and close deals. These skills are crucial for meeting sales targets, ensuring customer satisfaction, and fostering repeat business in a competitive retail environment.

What are some common challenges faced by employees working at a car dealership, and how can they be overcome?

Employees at car dealerships often face challenges such as meeting sales targets, staying updated on product knowledge, and effectively handling customer objections. To overcome these, it's important to engage in ongoing training, actively participate in team meetings, and seek mentorship from experienced colleagues. Building strong relationships with customers and maintaining a positive attitude can also help turn challenges into opportunities for growth and success.

Both roles are integral to the automotive industry, but Service Advisors specialize in customer service and repair process coordination.

Is it easy to get hired at a dealership?

Getting hired at a dealership can vary depending on the position and location, but entry-level roles such as sales associates or service technicians often have a straightforward application process. Having relevant skills, certifications, or experience can improve chances, and dealerships typically look for good communication and customer service skills. The hiring process may include interviews and background checks, and some roles may require specific licenses or training.

We empower employees to take on challenging assignments and roles with an elevated level of responsibility in our agile working environment. Our people make us who we are, and we create incredible products and experiences that empower us to THINK OUTSIDE.
Position Overview:
You will play a key role in supporting and governing dealer policies that help maintain the strength, compliance, and effectiveness of the Polaris dealer network. In this role, you will partner with field sales, legal, channel leadership, marketing, and other cross-functional teams to manage dealer agreements, policy compliance programs, and dealer performance initiatives. You will serve as a primary resource for interpreting, communicating, and executing dealer-related policies while ensuring consistent processes and stakeholder alignment. Through project management, policy administration, reporting, and dealer performance monitoring, you will help drive operational consistency and support business objectives across the dealer network. This role provides the opportunity to influence dealer network performance and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the creation, administration, distribution, tracking, and completion reporting of annual dealer agreements in partnership with legal, field sales, and channel leadership.
  • Manage dealer policy programs, including minimum standards, credit line requirements, dealer performance management, minimum advertised pricing (MAP), and WG order cancellation policies.
  • Monitor dealer compliance with established policies, identify violations, and execute enforcement processes, including required dealer communications and corrective actions.
  • Partner with legal, field sales, product line sales, channel leadership, and other stakeholders to establish policy requirements, maintain alignment, and support program execution.
  • Develop and deliver reporting, progress updates, and compliance communications that inform leadership and stakeholders of program status, business impacts, and dealer performance trends.
  • Support dealer performance improvement initiatives by identifying eligible dealerships, facilitating intervention strategies, tracking performance metrics, and coordinating improvement plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate, enhance, and support the long-term evolution of dealer policies, standards, and programs.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to monitor compliance activities, document outcomes, and ensure accurate execution of dealer-focused programs.
  • Lead quarterly processes associated with non-compliance notifications, assessments, and related dealer communications.

Desired Competencies:
  • Collaboration: You work effectively with others across functions and levels, contributing to shared goals while respecting different perspectives.
  • Communication: You clearly convey information, ideas, and expectations to diverse audiences, adjusting your message to ensure understanding and alignment.
  • Planning & Organization: You manage time, resources, and priorities effectively to meet deadlines and deliver consistent results.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in marketing, sales, project management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Dealer channel experience preferred.
  • Travel required up to 25% of the time. (Sales Meetings and Dealer Shows)
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
