Dealership Delivery Driver information

What does a dealership delivery driver do?

A Dealership Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting vehicles from a dealership to customers, other dealerships, or auction sites. Their duties may include inspecting vehicles for damage before and after delivery, verifying delivery documentation, and ensuring vehicles arrive on time and in good condition. They often interact with customers to provide a positive delivery experience and may also be responsible for picking up vehicles for maintenance or trade-ins. Good driving skills, attention to detail, and strong customer service abilities are important for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dealership delivery driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dealership Delivery Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and a good understanding of vehicle handling and safety. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, delivery tracking apps, and basic vehicle inspection procedures is often required. Strong customer service, punctuality, and attention to detail help drivers provide a positive experience and ensure accurate deliveries. These abilities are crucial for maintaining customer satisfaction, ensuring safety, and representing the dealership professionally.

What are some common challenges faced by dealership delivery drivers, and how can they be managed?

Dealership Delivery Drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating unfamiliar routes, managing tight delivery schedules, and ensuring vehicles arrive in pristine condition. To manage these challenges, drivers typically use GPS navigation tools, maintain open communication with the dealership team, and follow strict inspection checklists before and after each delivery. Being adaptable and organized helps drivers handle traffic delays and last-minute schedule changes efficiently, ensuring a smooth delivery process.

Job description

Delivery & Pickup Driver – Full-Time Seasonal

Boat City Marine – Portage, Michigan

Boat City Marine is looking for a dependable and experienced Delivery & Pickup Driver to join our team for the boating season. This is a full-time seasonal position primarily responsible for transporting pontoons and boats between customers, lakes, storage locations, our dealership, and manufacturers.

This position is a great fit for someone who is comfortable towing larger trailers, enjoys being on the road and around boats, and can represent our dealership professionally when interacting with customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Pick up customer pontoons and boats and transport them back to the dealership for service, repairs, and storage
  • Deliver completed boats back to customers and launch boats when necessary
  • Safely load, secure, transport, launch, and retrieve boats and pontoons
  • Transport technicians and boats to area lakes for water testing
  • Pick up new boats from manufacturers and transport them to the dealership
  • Transport boats between the dealership, storage facilities, boat shows, and other locations as needed
  • Run dealership errands, pick up parts and supplies, and assist with other transportation needs
  • Inspect trucks and trailers before trips and report any maintenance or safety concerns
  • Keep dealership trucks, trailers, and related equipment clean and organized
  • Assist dealership staff with moving boats and trailers around the property when needed
  • Communicate with customers and dealership staff regarding pickups and deliveries
  • Represent Boat City Marine in a friendly and professional manner while on the road and at customer locations

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Comfortable towing and maneuvering larger boat and pontoon trailers
  • Ability to safely back trailers into driveways, storage areas, boat ramps, and other tight locations
  • Previous boating, towing, or marine experience preferred
  • Experience launching and retrieving boats and pontoons is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and make good decisions while on the road
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow a changing daily schedule
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with securing, launching, and transporting boats
  • Willingness to travel throughout Michigan and occasionally longer distances for manufacturer pickups

Position Details

This is a full-time seasonal position with hours varying somewhat based on the time of year and dealership workload. Spring and fall are our busiest pickup and delivery seasons, so flexibility during those periods is important.

The majority of the job involves driving and transporting boats, but the ideal candidate is willing to help wherever needed when the delivery schedule is lighter.

If you enjoy driving, working around boats, and having a job where each day is a little different, we'd like to hear from you.
