You will join a diverse team to deliver safety, security, and capacity at low cost. AWS seeks a detail-oriented individual to join the Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team, responsible for maintaining critical physical infrastructure and ensuring 100% availability of mechanical, electrical, and fire/life safety equipment.

As the DCEO Chief Engineer (CE), you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operates at peak efficiency, managing planned preventive maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You will serve as a technical expert, reporting to the Data Center Facility Manager and coordinating with Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third‑party vendors. You will manage small‑to‑medium impacting projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams.

Key responsibilities
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
  • Operate independently with limited direct management.
  • Serve as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as needed.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot and report facility and data‑center‑level events within internal SLA.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
  • Ensure all safety procedures adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.
Basic qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Experience in data center engineering or operations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • National of an EU member state.
Preferred qualifications
  • Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License.
  • Operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction or project management.
