What is a DCAM job?

A DCAM (Data Capability Assessment Model) job typically involves evaluating and improving an organization's data management capabilities. Professionals in this role assess data governance, quality, architecture, and operations to ensure efficient data-driven decision-making. They often work with frameworks like the DCAM model to benchmark and enhance data management practices. This role is crucial for organizations looking to optimize data strategy and compliance.

What are some common challenges faced by DCAM specialists during data capability assessments?

DCAM specialists often encounter challenges in aligning diverse business units on data management standards and effectively communicating the value of mature data practices to non-technical stakeholders. Navigating varying levels of data literacy across teams, handling resistance to process changes, and ensuring data governance initiatives are adopted organization-wide are typical hurdles. Additionally, balancing thorough assessment with tight project timelines can require strong project management skills. Successfully overcoming these challenges involves both technical knowledge and the ability to foster collaboration and consensus.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Dcam position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DCAM (Data Capability Assessment Model) specialist, you need a strong background in data management, data governance, and business analysis, ideally supported by relevant certifications such as DCAM accreditation or experience with industry frameworks. Familiarity with tools such as data cataloging platforms, data quality assessment software, and data lineage systems is often required. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and analytical problem-solving skills help in driving organizational change and translating business needs into data solutions. These capabilities ensure effective assessment and improvement of an organization's data management maturity, supporting strategic decision-making and regulatory compliance.

How to get DCAM certified?

To become DCAM certified, candidates must complete a training program approved by the certifying organization and pass a comprehensive exam that tests knowledge of data management and compliance standards. Relevant skills include understanding data governance, security protocols, and industry best practices. Certification requirements may vary depending on the specific DCAM certification program and industry standards.

What does DCAM mean in coins worth?

In coin collecting, DCAM stands for 'Deep Cameo,' indicating a coin with a strong, frosted design that contrasts sharply with the mirrored background. This designation is used to identify coins with high-quality proof finishes and can increase their value among collectors. The grade and rarity of the coin also significantly influence its worth.

What is the DCAM certification?

The DCAM certification refers to the Data Center Assessment Method certification, which validates expertise in data center management, operations, and infrastructure. It is often pursued by professionals working in data center environments to demonstrate knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

Job description

Role Summary
The Data Governance Lead will serve as the on-site program lead and primary client-facing authority for the Supply Chain Data Governance initiative. This role is accountable for establishing and operationalizing a federated data governance model, aligning Supply Chain stakeholders with Enterprise/CDO direction, and driving execution against the approved roadmap and milestones.
The role combines strategic governance leadership, stakeholder orchestration, and delivery oversight, ensuring progress across governance design, stewardship activation, KPI definition, and pilot execution-without directly owning tooling configuration or run-state operations.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Governance Leadership
• Lead the Supply Chain federated Data Governance operating model, including decision rights, councils, working groups, stewardship roles, and escalation paths.
  • Stand up and run the Supply Chain Data Governance Council and Working Groups, including agenda design, decision facilitation, and executive readouts.
  • Own the Data Governance Charter, principles, policies, and standards and ensure alignment with Enterprise/CDO/Polaris governance direction.

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement
• Act as the primary interface with senior Supply Chain leadership, Business Data Owners (BDOs), and the CDO/Polaris teams.
  • Drive Business Data Owner sign-offs on scope, standards, critical data elements, and governance decisions.
  • Manage dependencies across Supply Chain, Data Engineering, Platform, and Analytics teams.

Roadmap, Readiness & Delivery Oversight
• Lead the DG readiness assessment and "Get-Green" plan, including phased rollout sequencing and dependency management.
  • Own the pilot sub-domain selection, success criteria, and milestone tracking.
  • Ensure delivery of all monthly milestones, RAID management, and change control in line with the SOW cadence.

Standards, Metrics & Scale-Out
• Oversee definition of Critical Data Elements (CDEs/CDOs), business glossary standards, metadata and lineage blueprints.
  • Lead development of the DG and DQ KPI framework, including baseline definition and adoption measurement.
  • Define the scale-out governance playbook for replication across additional Supply Chain sub-domains.

Advisory & Enablement (Non-Technical)
• Provide governance oversight for AI-ready data pilots (advisory only; no AI or tooling implementation).
  • Guide change management activities, including communications, training approach, and adoption monitoring.

Required Experience & Skills
• 10+ years in Data Governance, Data Management, or Enterprise Data Leadership roles.
  • Proven experience defining and leading federated data governance models in large, complex organizations.
  • Strong understanding of metadata, lineage, stewardship, data quality frameworks, and data product concepts.
  • Executive-level stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, TOGAF.
  • Experience working with governance/catalog platforms (e.g., Purview, Collibra, Atlan, Alation) at a design and operating-model level.
