Job description

Provides high-level database support by verifying databases associated with network tools and solutions function as required. Responsible for developing, evaluating, designing, and configuring relational database architectures and systems. Responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of databases and ensuring their reliable and efficient performance. Oversees establishing and maintaining the architecture, design, and security of various databases.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and incident management measures.
  • Creates and maintains connections between databases and data sources.
  • Gathers and researches user requirements and liaises with developers and other staff to improve applications and establish standards, best practices and procedures with an ability to document, report issues, and provide resolutions.
  • Determines high-level database structural requirements by working with business stakeholders, and identifying optimal database specifications.
  • Translates high-level requirements into database development.
  • Supports sequencing diagrams and process flow development, data profiling, data analysis, and logical and physical data modeling.
  • Prepares scripts to automate administrative tasks.
  • Evaluates the integration of new tools or technologies based on the capabilities of the existing infrastructure.
  • Creates advanced tests, develops complex databases, and tunes database performance, reviewing database performance trends and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversees permissions, recovery, security and monitors data management platform.
  • Performs advanced database administration activities including; installation, configuration, monitoring, space management, database backup and recovery, and may design disaster recovery procedures.
  • Plans and executes any needed upgrades to the software applications and ensures necessary licensing is maintained.
  • Implements procedures to control access and allocation of data and maintain security controls.
  • Uses various databases and sources to research system vulnerabilities and potential security attacks.
  • Performs capacity planning and projection for future growth.
  • May provide mentorship and input into performance appraisals for junior Database Administrators.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study.
  • Dependent upon contract requirement
  • 8-15 years of experience working with progressively more complex or large-scale databases.

  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining complex database environments.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse, Big Data constructs, Business Intelligence and end-user displays.
  • Ability to work with Developers, System Administrators, Architects, and IT Management to plan and size production systems
  • Extensive experience with DBA productivity and performance tools.
  • Familiar with database concepts and technologies in a cloud environment.
  • Experience with DoD and Federal Government is strongly desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of security network and infrastructure tools, including access control and/or encryption.
  • In depth knowledge of troubleshooting skills and out of the box thinking to overcome data obstacles.
  • Ability to create and maintain connections between databases and data sources.
  • Ability to delegate/split tasks among a team.

Compensation ranges for ASM Research positions vary depending on multiple factors; including but not limited to, location, skill set, level of education, certifications, client requirements, contract-specific affordability, government clearance and investigation level, and years of experience. The compensation displayed for this role is a general guideline based on these factors and is unique to each role. Monetary compensation is one component of ASM's overall compensation and benefits package for employees.
