Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Daycare Teacher encourages the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of children. The Teacher will teach and supervise children while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
  1. Design and follow a schedule of activities utilizing suitable teaching materials.
  2. Create lesson plans and other curriculum that support a child’s learning and development.
  3. Provide basic care to children.
  4. Use a wide range of teaching methods, including but not limited to stories, media, indoor/outdoor games, drawing, etc. to enhance the child’s abilities and knowledge.
  5. Evaluate children’s performance to make sure they are on the right learning track.
  6. Communicate effectively with parents in conjunction with the Daycare Center Director, updating them on the progress of their children.
  7. Identify behavioral problems and work with the Daycare Center Director to determine the right course of action.
  8. Collaborate with other Teachers/Aides/Substitutes.
  9. Clean and sanitize the Daycare Center.
  10. Serve meals and snacks to children.
  11. Set up classroom and play areas daily.
  12. Adhere with teaching standards and safety regulations as established by all federal, state, and local guidelines.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Age:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Education:  Must have one of the following requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children as verified by a former employer OR submit a written plan for Department approval to acquire at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of on the job training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development in a of six (6) months or less.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development OR Child Development Associate Credential (preferred)

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Child Care/Daycare Teacher preferred.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Valid Nebraska Teaching Certification preferred.
  • BLS/First Aide certification required
  • Safe With You certification required
    • Provided upon hire if needed
