Manufacturing Operator (Day Shift): 

Shelby, NC Production


Description

Summary: Monitor and maintain a continuous casting line to include various quality checks. Record and enter data into computer system. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work independently and/or on a team and is a self-starter. This is a day shift position on a 12-hour 4x4 shift schedule.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for line operation and minor repair of equipment.
  • Responsible for properly loading furnace.
  • Responsible for safe operation of the equipment and keeping the work area clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for machine set up, including tool changes.
  • Diagnose machinery problems, adjust and correct as necessary.
  • Operate controls for furnace and casting line.
  • Operate lift truck on a regular basis.
  • Operate overhead crane.
  • Monitor temperature and replace thermocouples as needed.
  • Monitor equipment and parameters.
  • Perform routine furnace maintenance, including skimming and operating jackhammer.
  • Perform quality checks per metals process manual.
  • Perform housekeeping duties throughout the shift and maintain workstation.
  • Frequently lift or move 40 to 70 pounds.
  • Responsible for paperwork (lot tracking, loading log, quality checks, etc.)
  • Maintain high level of accuracy (lot ticket, weights, Data entry, etc.)
  • Other duties as required. 
  • Strict adherence to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Strict adherence to all quality and procedural standards.
  • Strict adherence to start/stop times for start of shift and breaks. 
  • Maintain proper attendance.
  • Maintain moderate flexibility for shift coverage.

Requirements

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience in machine operation is preferred.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and work procedures. Ability to write production quotas and downtime hours.

Math Ability: Ability to do basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a range of variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Basic

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must have ability to talk and hear.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to hot and humid conditions.

The employee is frequently exposed to molten metal and equipment, moving mechanical parts, and places requiring balance. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat. Work is performed mostly inside of the plant. When work is performed outside there is full exposure to the elements.

PPE Requirements: While performing the normal duties of this job, an employee must wear safety glasses, steel-toe shoe/boots, a fire-resistant uniform, leather gloves, and ear plugs (in some areas). When performing certain tasks of this job an employee may also be required to wear a face shield, hot gloves, and neck protection.
