RN Med Surg Position: RN: Med Surg Department: Med Surg Facility: Pagosa Springs Medical Center Location: Pagosa Springs, Colorado Shift: Day Shift, 0615 to 1845 Schedule: 3 days per week, 12-hour shifts Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week All-Inclusive Rate: $89.00 per hour EHR: Cerner experience required Position Summary Pagosa Springs Medical Center is seeking an experienced Med Surg RN to provide observation and/or inpatient care to patients assigned to the Med Surg Unit. The RN is responsible for assessing and prioritizing patient care, administering nursing care and procedures, monitoring and reassessing patients, documenting assessments and changes in condition, educating patients and families, collaborating with providers, and supporting continuity of care to help prevent readmission. Required Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience required. Previous traveler experience required. Cerner EHR/EMR experience required. Graduate of an accredited RN program required. Current Colorado RN license, or ability to obtain required licensure, in good standing. Current AHA BLS certification required. Current ACLS certification required or completion at next available course within 3 months. Current PALS certification required or completion at next available course within 3 months. Basic computer skills and electronic health record experience required. Essential Responsibilities Provides patient care within the RN scope of practice and in accordance with physician/provider orders. Performs comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluation of care provided. Monitors patients for changes in condition and reports abnormal findings to the appropriate provider. Administers medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely. Operates infusion pumps and documents accurately in the electronic health record. Completes required Cerner documentation in accordance with competencies, training, policies, and procedures. Uses Care Compass to organize and document assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education. Performs age-specific nursing care, including assessment and reassessment of patient condition. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, and takes appropriate action when needed. Provides patient and family education related to disease process, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care. Transfers care using SBAR format when appropriate. Follows infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals. Maintains patient confidentiality and protects patient rights, dignity, and privacy. Collaborates with providers, staff, and other departments to support interdisciplinary patient care. Serves as a mentor to other nursing staff and supports continuous learning. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Work is performed in a hospital setting with exposure to work stress, environmental stress, frequent interruptions, moderate noise, and regular communication with patients, employees, vendors, and the public. This position requires the ability to perform heavy work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. The role includes potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable disease, radiation, chemicals, hazardous materials, verbal or physical abuse, and physical strain related to patient care. Additional Requirements Candidate must demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, service excellence, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital environment. Candidate must comply with all facility policies, procedures, safety requirements, confidentiality standards, and department expectations.
