Due to organic growth, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mine Control Operator at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

  • What's the role?

    The Mine Control Operator reports to the Underground General Foremen, and the primary role is to provide communication, coordination and recording services for all personnel and equipment status within the Pogo Mine Underground Operation.

    Duties include:

    Monitor and control ventilation fans and mine water inflows according to site procedures and notify the responsible engineer in the event of faults

    • Continually communicate with the shift supervisors regarding production and safety throughout the shift
    • Communicate assignments to operators as directed by shift supervisors
    • Ensure all bogging, trucking, production drilling, development drilling, charge up operations and service crew operations are accounted for in terms of operator, machine number, location, tonnes bogged and trucked, material type, mechanical and electrical breakdowns and mine delays
    • Coordinate the movement of gear between mining and maintenance crews to minimize the idle time of the transition.
    • Deliver detailed information as required by mining and maintenance supervisors
  • What are we looking for?

    You'll be a highly organized individual with a good understanding of logistics who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

    The specifics:

    Knowledge and experience in an underground mining environment

    • Knowledge of the machinery and equipment in use in an underground mining operation
    • Knowledge and experience in radio communications, using multiple channels
    • Previous experience in dispatching or logistics desired
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices
    • Detailed working knowledge of the Mine Safety and Health Administration Act & regulations.
    • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.
  • The Details:

    Working 28 days on, 14 days off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

    Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
