Job description

Arcade & Pinball Service Technician

Midwest Gaming – Wood Dale, Illinois

Full-Time

Midwest Gaming is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined Arcade & Pinball Service Technician to join our team.

We sell, deliver, install, route, maintain, and repair pinball machines, arcade games, and other amusement equipment throughout the Chicagoland area. We also operate a retail showroom in Wood Dale where we sell games directly to the public.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, repairing equipment, working with customers, and having variety in their day.

You won't be sitting at a desk doing the same thing every day. One day might involve repairing games in our shop, another may involve servicing equipment at a route location, preparing and delivering a new pinball machine to a customer's home, or helping make sure the showroom is ready for customers.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pinball machines, arcade games, and related amusement equipment
  • Perform repairs both in our Wood Dale facility and at customer and route locations
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and mechanical problems
  • Diagnose issues involving wiring, switches, power supplies, displays, monitors, controls, computers, circuit boards, motors, coils, and other components
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine equipment inspections
  • Set up, test, clean, and prepare new and used equipment for customers
  • Deliver, install, move, and set up pinball machines, arcade games, and other amusement equipment
  • Verify that equipment is operating correctly before and after installation
  • Maintain games located at public route locations and help minimize equipment downtime
  • Respond professionally to customer service needs and equipment problems
  • Communicate clearly with customers about repairs and equipment operation
  • Assist customers in our showroom when needed and help answer basic questions about the games we sell
  • Keep showroom games clean, operational, and ready for customer demonstrations
  • Help maintain an organized inventory of parts, tools, and service supplies
  • Assist with warehouse organization and equipment movement
  • Document repairs, parts used, and equipment issues
  • Identify needed replacement parts and communicate parts requirements
  • Keep company vehicles, tools, and service equipment organized and properly maintained
  • Work closely with management and other team members to prioritize service calls, deliveries, installations, and shop work
  • Take ownership of assigned work and follow repairs through to completion
Who We're Looking For

Experience with pinball or arcade equipment is strongly preferred, but we are also interested in candidates with related technical backgrounds.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Pinball machines
  • Arcade games
  • Amusement equipment
  • Coin-operated equipment
  • Video gaming terminals / gaming equipment
  • Vending machines
  • Jukeboxes
  • Bowling or family entertainment center equipment
  • Electronics repair
  • Appliance or equipment repair
  • Field service
  • Electromechanical equipment
  • Commercial equipment service

Someone with strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical troubleshooting skills can be successful in this position even if they have not previously worked specifically on pinball machines.

What We're Looking For in a Technician

The right candidate:

  • Enjoys troubleshooting and figuring out why something isn't working
  • Has strong mechanical aptitude
  • Is comfortable working with electrical and electronic components
  • Understands basic wiring and electrical troubleshooting
  • Can use common hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Works carefully and takes pride in repairing things correctly
  • Is dependable and shows up when expected
  • Can work independently while also being part of a team
  • Is organized with tools, parts, and work areas
  • Can follow a problem through instead of simply replacing parts until something works
  • Is comfortable interacting directly with customers
  • Communicates professionally and respectfully
  • Is willing to learn new equipment and technologies
  • Is comfortable working both in our shop/showroom and in the field
  • Is physically capable of helping safely move and install large amusement equipment
  • Has a valid driver's license and a good driving record
Customer Interaction

Technical ability is important, but so is how you work with people.

Our technicians represent Midwest Gaming in customers' homes, businesses, route locations, and in our showroom. We are looking for someone who is friendly, professional, and comfortable explaining equipment and repairs to customers.

You do not need to be a salesperson, but you should be comfortable talking with customers and helping provide a great experience.

Experience

Previous professional experience repairing arcade, amusement, pinball, gaming, vending, electronics, or other electromechanical equipment is preferred.

However, we are willing to consider someone with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude who has the right attitude and demonstrated troubleshooting ability.

A college degree is not required. Hands-on ability, reliability, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn are more important to us.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position.

Candidates must be comfortable:

  • Standing and working on equipment for extended periods
  • Bending, kneeling, and working in and around amusement equipment
  • Using hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Loading and unloading equipment
  • Assisting with moving pinball machines, arcade games, and other heavy equipment using proper equipment and safe moving procedures
  • Traveling locally to customer and route locations
Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position based at our Wood Dale, Illinois location.

The position involves a combination of shop work, showroom support, deliveries, installations, and field service throughout the Chicagoland area.

Some flexibility may occasionally be required based on customer deliveries, service needs, and business demands.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be based on experience and technical ability.

Midwest Gaming offers a competitive benefits package including:

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Additional employee benefits
Why Midwest Gaming?

Midwest Gaming gives technicians the opportunity to work on equipment that is a lot more interesting than the average service job.

You'll work on pinball machines, arcade games, and other amusement equipment from a variety of manufacturers and generations. You'll learn new equipment, solve different problems, work both in the shop and in the field, and see the results of your work firsthand.

We're a hands-on business where capable, dependable people are trusted with responsibility and have the opportunity to grow.

  • If you enjoy fixing things, solving problems, working with your hands, and want to build your career around arcade, pinball, and amusement equipment, we'd like to hear from you.
