Sr. Data Scientist
Job Type: Contract (6-month, with potential for extension)
Location: Greenwood Village, CO
Work Setting: On-site (5 days/week)
Rate: $70-$80 per hour based upon experience
Position Summary
Unison Systems is looking for a skilled Sr. Data Scientist for our client located in Greenwood Village, CO. In this role, you will lead advanced AI and NLP initiatives, leveraging cutting-edge techniques in Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex business challenges and optimize decision-making across global markets. As a T-shaped data professional, you will combine elite business communication with hands-on technical execution, owning end-to-end delivery from interpreting ambiguous executive requests to automating the final data platform. This position demands proven leadership in AI projects, deep expertise in fine-tuning LLMs, and the ability to mentor junior data scientists while driving innovation aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Plan and lead the end-to-end analytics life cycle, including requirements gathering, problem formulation, data grooming and exploration, and model prototyping, validation, and production deployment.
- Develop and fine-tune LLM-based AI solutions, optimizing multilingual applications.
- Utilize prompt engineering techniques to refine AI interactions and improve model efficiency.
- Lead exploratory analyses to establish links across datasets and identify valuable data correlations.
- Apply NLP modeling techniques such as entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and text generation.
- Guide and mentor junior data scientists, fostering innovation and collaboration.
- Present findings, suggested actions, and strategic recommendations to executives and stakeholders.
- Ensure model scalability, adaptability, and modular architecture across AI projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor''s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of experience with data manipulation and statistical modeling as a Scientist, Consultant, Architect, DBA, or Engineer.
- 5 years of experience in SQL/R/Python/SAS programming.
- Strong experience in SQL, Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Extensive expertise in LLMs and prompt engineering (GPT, BERT, LLaMA), including the ability to articulate risks and limitations and build creative solutions outside the traditional scope of the technologies.
- Ability to fine-tune and optimize AI models for specialized applications.
- Expertise in data manipulation, machine learning algorithms, and statistical modeling.
- Experience with Big Data tools (Hadoop, Spark) and ETL processes.
- Solid understanding of data architecture, data warehouses, and streaming services.
- Proven track record of leading AI-driven automation and NLP research projects.
- Strong analytical skills with command over advanced mathematical concepts (probability, statistics, PDEs, calculus).
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Master''s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Experience in sales, marketing, or competitive intelligence analytics.
- Background in the telecommunications industry or other consumer-based sectors.
- Experience with Teradata (SQL, UDFs, explain plans, performance tuning).
- Operations-research experience focused on large labor operations (field ops, technical support, and sales).
- Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, HIVE, SAS, SPSS, Alteryx, and Linux.
- Familiarity with text analysis, text mining, and AI-driven automation tools.
- Publications or research contributions in LLM and NLP applications.
