Lifeline of Ohio coordinates and promotes organ, eye, and tissue donation across Ohio, and we are seeking a Tissue Recovery Technician to join our Tissue Recovery team.


Major Role Description:

Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Lifeline of Ohio, the Tissue Technician coordinates clinical aspects of tissue recovery in collaboration with the referral center and other partner services functions. This position evaluates the suitability of patient referrals to be donors and follows all regulatory standards.


**This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits eligible role. The call hours are DAY SHIFT (7:00a-7:00p). Schedule consists of 3 or 4 shifts per week (depending on staff rotation). Schedule flexibility is needed; shift length can vary based on donor activity.



Tissue Recovery & Coordination Responsibilities:


Tissue Recovery:


1. Recovers tissue to maximize availability for transplant and/or research

  • Prepares operating room for recovery process
  • Operates closely with Tissue Coordinator to perform physical exam and thoroughly document all findings
  • Inspects donor ID band for positive identification of donor
  • Arranges instrumentation for the recovery process
  • Assures aseptic technique is used during the recovery process (sterile and aseptic)

2. Packages tissue to effectively transport to shipping facility for processing

  • Prepares processor specific boxes needed for shipment
  • Packs all tissue and materials needed for shipment
  • Insures proper materials are present for shipping

3. Collects donor information to assure compliance with all federal and/or state governing agencies and industry guidelines

  • Initials chart for authorization
  • Confirms identification of donor and testing materials
  • Verifies tissue shipment information needed for electronic charting system
  • Verifies tissue, blood and culture for labeling

Tissue Coordination:

  • Verify authorization for accepted tissue cases
  • Review relevant medical records
  • Arrange OR time with recovery facility
  • Contact Tissue Technicians
  • Verify paperwork with team
  • Confirm Processor acceptance
  • Help/supervise packing supplies
  • Make phone calls to appropriate staff at hospitals/processors
  • Help set up OR for recovery
  • Assist team in OR where necessary
  • Concurrently chart in donation database as recovery occurs
  • Verify correct graft are recovered and packaged according to processor standards
  • Set up shipping of recovered tissue

4. Other duties as assigned

Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare related field, knowledge of human anatomy, sterile and aseptic technique, medical terminology or equivalent highly preferred
  • Regular and timely attendance
  • Clean driving record; must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation to our office
  • High school diploma required
