Day Shift Aviation information

What is a day shift aviation job?

Day shift aviation jobs refer to positions within the aviation industry where employees work primarily during daytime hours, typically between early morning and late afternoon. These jobs can include roles such as pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, ground crew, air traffic controllers, and customer service agents. Day shift schedules are often preferred by those who want to avoid night work and maintain a standard daily routine. Specific responsibilities vary depending on the position, but all contribute to safe and efficient airport or airline operations during the day.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in day shift aviation roles?

Professionals in day shift aviation roles often encounter challenges such as managing tight turnaround times for aircraft, coordinating with multiple teams (like maintenance, ground crew, and flight operations), and maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols. The fast-paced environment requires excellent time management and strong communication skills to ensure flights operate on schedule. Additionally, adapting to dynamic weather conditions and unexpected operational changes is common, making flexibility and problem-solving abilities essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a day shift aviation professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Day Shift Aviation professional, you need a solid understanding of aviation regulations, flight operations, and safety protocols, often supported by relevant certifications or licenses such as an FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate or pilot license. Familiarity with aviation management systems, maintenance tracking software, and communication tools like radios or dispatch systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating smoothly with crew members and ground staff. These skills and qualities ensure safe, efficient, and compliant aviation operations during daytime schedules.

  • Support the company’s Safety Management System and other safety initiatives.
  • Work closely with medical crews, communications teams, maintenance personnel, and leadership.
  • Provide safe, efficient, courteous, and reliable service to internal and external customers.
  • Participate in community outreach programs as needed.
  • Assist with loading and unloading patients and equipment when required.
  • Maintain compliance with FAA, CAMTS, company, and customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, strong communication, and professionalism during flight operations.
Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • Commercial Helicopter Rating

  • First Class Medical Certificate
  • Minimum 2,000 total flight hours
  • Minimum 1,500 helicopter hours
  • Minimum 1,000 PIC helicopter hours
  • Minimum 500 turbine helicopter hours
  • Minimum 100 hours unaided night operations
    or
50 hours unaided night and 100 hours NVG
  • Ability to meet and maintain the company’s flight personnel weight restriction policy of 235 lbs. or less
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong internal and external customer service skills
  • Ability to successfully interview with customer and management teams
  • Ability to pass a pre-placement physical exam, drug screening, and background check
Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to assist with loading and unloading patients and equipment. Candidates must be able to pass a functional capacity exam, including a strength and flexibility assessment, with the ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
