Job description

The aide assists the van driver in safely transporting clients to and from Day Program.ย  An aide is needed during transportation with students and/or individuals that have behavioral and/or medical needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for redirectingย behaviors and physical safety of individuals while in transportation
  • Assist in loading and unloading special needs individuals and to monitor their ride to and from Day Program
  • Assist in managing the seating of the passengers so that everyone is safe and secure
  • Basic first aid
  • Basic record keeping
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Follow Health and Safety regulationsย 
  • Attend safety meetings
  • High School diploma or equivalent

REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be patient and courteous with others, including, but not limited to parents, coworkers, and the general public
  • Sitting for extended periods of timeย 
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Reaching, pulling, and pushing to open van doors or windowsย 
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally
  • Ability to monitor passengersย 
  • Should be in good physical condition to be able to secure wheelchair students (including tie downs), strapping a child into a car seat or booster seat, hooking up a child in a safety vest or fastening a seat belt
  • Must check inside vehicle daily, front to back for any personal belongings left behindย
