Job description

About Tapestry
Tapestry is a team within Alphabet working to build the AI-powered electric grid. We are tackling one of the world's most important infrastructure challenges: helping the energy system become more visible, understandable, reliable, affordable, abundant, and clean.
Originally born at X, Alphabet's moonshot factory, Tapestry brings together experts in energy, AI, software, engineering, and product to build tools that help the electricity ecosystem plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently.
This is a global effort. Tapestry supports partners across the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil as they work toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
Joining Tapestry means doing high-impact work with a multidisciplinary team tackling a problem that matters at global scale. Learn more about our team and our mission here.
About the role:
We are looking for a Power System Specialist focused on supporting the Tapestry platform for developers, RTOs, utilities, and other stakeholders. You will serve as the essential technical and domain-specific connective tissue between real-world generation and large load interconnection and planning challenges, core product strategy, and engineering execution. Working across AI, energy systems, product, and software engineering teams as well as external partners, you will translate deep power systems expertise into viable product roadmaps and scalable tools.
How you will make 10X Impact
  • Architect and define next-generation agentic planning workflows for large load developers, translating complex transmission planning, RTO/ISO requirements, and grid challenges into technical product specifications and user stories, while maintaining a strategic technical perspective to align product capabilities with regulatory changes.
  • Serve as the primary domain expert and technical POC, collaborating closely with software engineers, ML researchers, product managers, and external partners to enable end-to-end planning workflow at scale.
  • Drive product development and execution through internal prototyping, technical design reviews, and QA/QC to benchmark accuracy against industry standards and maintain operational realism.
  • Establish closed-loop feedback by synthesizing partner requirements, real-world performance data, and grid insights to refine product strategy and platform capabilities for planning workflows.
What you should have:
  • Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related technical fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in power systems analysis and large load development.
  • Strong understanding of power system principles, including power flow, short circuit analysis, contingency analysis, power factor correction, power system stability and Electromagnetic Transient modeling related to Large Load models
  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g. PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, etc.)
  • Experience/knowledge in programming languages (e.g, Matlab, Python, JAX, C++, Julia, etc.) and automating complex studies or data handling tasks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
It'd be great if you also had one or more of these:
  • Doctorate (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related technical field.
  • Ability to influence without authority, working with technical and cross-functional teams to get things done
  • Fast learner with capacity to learn about a wide-spread of different technologies
  • Track record of delivering scalable solutions to complex software problems
  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments

What we offer:
A culture that supports growth, ownership, and meaningful impact, along with...
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and flexible hybrid work model
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Professional development
  • The ability to work on important real-world problems within an Alphabet-backed environment
