Job description

Marine Technical Customer Service Representative

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Overtime: May be available

Turn Your Marine Experience into a Desk-Based Career

Are you an experienced boat mechanic, marine technician, or service writer who enjoys solving technical problems but is ready for a role that is less physically demanding?

Livorsi Marine is looking for a Marine Technical Customer Service Representative who can use their hands-on boating and mechanical knowledge to assist customers, troubleshoot product questions, and coordinate solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to remain connected to the marine industry while transitioning into a primarily office-based position.

About CompX Grayslake and Livorsi Marine

CompX Grayslake is a leading manufacturer of highly engineered mechanical and electromechanical products for world-class original equipment manufacturers. Through Livorsi Marine, we manufacture precision instruments, controls, throttles, and accessories for the recreational and high-performance marine markets.

Position Summary

The Marine Technical Customer Service Representative is a primary point of contact for Livorsi Marine customers. This position combines customer service, order management, and technical product support.

The successful candidate will understand how boats and marine systems work, communicate confidently with customers, and take ownership of questions and concerns from initial contact through resolution. Previous experience as a boat mechanic, marine technician, dealership service writer, service advisor, or marine parts specialist is highly valued.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer questions by telephone and email in a professional and timely manner.
  • Use marine and mechanical knowledge to answer product questions and help troubleshoot customer concerns.
  • Assist customers with identifying the correct products, replacement parts, and potential solutions.
  • Process customer orders accurately and provide timely follow-up.
  • Take ownership of customer concerns and coordinate solutions through completion.
  • Communicate with boat dealers, builders, service departments, technicians, distributors, and retail customers.
  • Coordinate with production, shipping, sales, engineering, and other internal departments to meet customer needs.
  • Monitor orders and communicate shipment status from multiple company locations.
  • Maintain accurate customer records, order information, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop strong customer relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, and dependable follow-through.
  • Identify recurring customer concerns and recommend product, service, or process improvements.
  • Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to manage customer information, correspondence, and order-related activities.
  • Follow the company’s Quality Management System and applicable inspection, verification, documentation, and process requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Marine industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following roles is highly desirable:
    • Boat or marine mechanic
    • Marine service technician
    • Dealership service writer or service advisor
    • Marine parts or warranty specialist
    • Boat dealership, marina, or boat manufacturer customer support
  • Working knowledge of marine mechanical or electrical systems, controls, instrumentation, or related components is preferred.
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to customers with varying levels of mechanical knowledge.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable using computers and learning order-entry and customer-management systems.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple departments.
  • A dependable, customer-focused attitude and a commitment to following issues through resolution.

Why This Position May Be a Great Fit

This role allows you to:

  • Apply your marine and mechanical experience without the daily physical demands of working as a technician.
  • Stay connected to boats, marine products, dealers, builders, and service professionals.
  • Solve technical problems and help customers get back on the water.
  • Build a long-term career with an established marine-product manufacturer.
  • Work a consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for keyboarding and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, email, and in person.
  • Ability to move throughout the office and manufacturing facility as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally reach, bend, and stoop.
  • Close vision and the ability to view computer screens for extended periods.
