Job description

Job Title:         Certified Tutor                                             Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to:      Principal                                                      Pay Grade: 30.00 hour
Works with:    Students                                                       Days: 187
Dept./School:   Assigned Campus                                      Date Revised: 10.20.2021     This is a Grant Funded Position  Primary Purpose: To provide supplemental instruction for students under the professional guidance and supervision of classroom/intervention teachers. Day tutors work with students individually or in small groups providing supplemental reading, writing, and/or mathematics instruction. Day tutors may work with students in and out of the regular classroom.
  Qualifications:Education/Certification:
College degree required, teacher certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. 
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
 
Experience:
Experience as classroom teacher with children in a professional/school setting Major Responsibilities and Duties: 
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials in conjunction with the classroom teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
  • Assists students, individually or in small groups, for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing intervention strategies.
  • Attends meetings and inservice presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. 
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents for the purpose of assisting in evaluating needs for and progress of intervention strategies. 
  • Facilitates student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academic skills. 
  • Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives. 
  • Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and integrating intervention strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
