Job description

Bal Seal Engineering is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer II who will be responsible for actively supporting day-to-day production by resolving manufacturing issues, reviewing Bills of Materials (BOMs), routers, costing, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and Engineering Orders (EOs). This position is responsible for implementing process improvements and sustaining manufacturing initiatives, including the design and development of fixtures, jigs, tooling, and manual manufacturing processes.
The Manufacturing Engineer II will support the maintenance, specification, validation, installation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment while partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, and Production to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity. The ideal candidate is mechanically and electrically (preferred) inclined, enjoys troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, and takes a hands-on approach to solving production challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mentor lower-level engineers and serve as a technical resource to the engineering team.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support by troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing process issues on the production floor.
  • Design, build, validate and implement fixtures, jigs, tooling and manufacturing solutions to support manufacturing processes and production applications.
  • Review designs for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/A) while identifying opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Design, source, validate, qualify, install, and support new manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop and execute IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement both short- and long-term corrective actions.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement initiatives through innovative mechanical and electrical manufacturing solutions.
  • Establish manufacturing routings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), processes, layouts, tooling, labor standards, and manufacturing costs.
  • Develop supporting documentation including PFMEAs, work instructions, procedures, engineering drawings, tooling documentation, fixtures, and manufacturing processes to support new product introduction.
  • Document legacy production equipment and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Review, initiate, and assess Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Engineering Orders (EOs), drawing revisions, and process deviations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment performance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Equivalent technical education combined with a minimum of seven years of directly related manufacturing engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt certification preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum of 4+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience using SolidWorks

  • Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience supporting manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience implementing Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing initiatives, and Process Capability studies.
  • Experience designing and building fixtures, jigs, tooling, and manufacturing support equipment.
  • Experience developing and executing IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for manufacturing equipment preferred.
  • Experience interfacing with ERP/MRP and PLM/PDM systems.
  • Experience supporting assembly or manufacturing shop floor operations.
  • Experience reviewing and approving DFM/A analyses and engineering drawings.
  • Experience working with suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and document industry standards preferred.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and computer skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of GD&T interpretation and implementation per ASME Y14.5.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Knowledge of inspection tools, measurement techniques, and manufacturing quality methods.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and implement practical engineering solutions.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Ability to utilize ERP/MRP and PLM/PDM systems.
  • Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Operations, Production, and cross-functional teams.
  • Must be hands-on and comfortable working directly with plant personnel and production operators.

Physical Requirements
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk throughout the facility.
  • This position is primarily sedentary but requires regular interaction with the manufacturing floor.
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate a computer using a keyboard and mouse and occasionally work directly with manufacturing equipment and tooling.
