What is a day data annotation job?

Day Data Annotation jobs involve reviewing and tagging data, such as images, text, audio, or video, during regular daytime hours. Annotators help prepare datasets for machine learning and artificial intelligence by labeling or categorizing information according to specific guidelines. This work is essential for training algorithms to recognize patterns, objects, or language. Day Data Annotation can be done remotely or in-office, and it often requires attention to detail and good communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a day data annotation specialist?

To excel as a Day Data Annotation Specialist, you need strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and a solid understanding of the subject matter being annotated, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant experience. Familiarity with annotation tools, spreadsheets, and data management software is typically required. Excellent concentration, time management, and clear communication skills help professionals stand out in this role. These abilities are crucial to ensure high-quality, consistent data labeling that directly impacts the performance of machine learning models and downstream business applications.

What are some common challenges faced by day data annotation specialists and how can they be addressed?

Day Data Annotation specialists often encounter challenges such as maintaining high accuracy while handling repetitive tasks, interpreting ambiguous data, and meeting tight deadlines. To address these, it's important to develop strong attention to detail, use project guidelines as references, and communicate with team leads or peers when uncertainties arise. Many organizations also provide regular feedback and quality assurance checks, which help annotators improve their performance and consistency over time.

Job description

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Imagery / Order of Battle Analyst to support mission-critical work for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in Falls Church, VA.
This role is ideal for a seasoned intelligence professional who understands military capabilities, equipment, infrastructure, force structure, and operational patterns - and can apply that expertise across imagery, geospatial data, and emerging AI/ML-enabled mission support.
In this position, you will use your GEOINT, imagery analysis, and Order of Battle expertise to identify, classify, annotate, and validate objects, equipment, facilities, and activity across available imagery and other source data. Your work will directly support the creation, review, and verification of training data used in artificial intelligence and machine learning platforms.
The right candidate would have, in addition to traditional Imagery Analysis skills, the ability to recognize and categorize military vehicles, ships, aircraft, and other objects using SAR, EO, or FMV data. They would also possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and have experience performing peer reviews and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply imagery, GEOINT, and Order of Battle expertise to identify and assess air, ground, maritime, equipment, facilities, and infrastructure-related targets.
  • Support AI/ML mission capabilities by creating, reviewing, validating, and refining training data.
  • Use imagery and geospatial tools to create, edit, analyze, and interpret GEOINT products.
  • Apply photointerpretation skills and analytic tradecraft to categorize, annotate, and verify objects across imagery and supporting data sources.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on military equipment, force structure, infrastructure, and operational indicators.
  • Support intelligence production, reporting, briefings, and customer-facing analytic requirements.
  • Collaborate with analysts, technical teams, and mission partners in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Mentor junior analysts and help strengthen team tradecraft, quality, and mission understanding.

Why This Role Matters:
This is a hands-on mission role for an analyst who understands the intelligence value behind the image. Your expertise will help improve how mission data is identified, categorized, validated, and used to support advanced analytic capabilities. You will work at the intersection of GEOINT, military intelligence, Order of Battle analysis, and AI/ML-enabled mission support - helping deliver accurate, usable intelligence to customers who depend on it.
Required Skills and Education
  • 8+ years of imagery, GEOINT, geospatial, military intelligence, or related intelligence analysis experience.
  • Strong Order of Battle experience, including knowledge of air, ground, maritime, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting Intelligence Community, national-level, or military intelligence missions.
  • Experience with GEOINT exploitation, reporting, or imagery-based analysis.
  • Proficiency with GIS or imagery exploitation tools such as SOCET GXP, ArcGIS, QGIS, RemoteView, ERDAS, ENVI, Google Earth, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of the intelligence collection process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic, mission-focused environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required customer certifications, including GPC-F and IA-II.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior team members.
