  The Salisbury VA Medical Center is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated full-time Comprehensive Ophthalmologist (Physician) to join our team! FACILITY DETAILS: The Salisbury VA Health Care System is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to veterans across central and western North Carolina. Serving more than 90,000 Veterans, the health care system includes the W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, along with community-based outpatient clinics in Charlotte and Kernersville. Designated as a Level 1A complexity facility by the Veterans Health Administration, Salisbury VA provides a comprehensive range of services, including primary and specialty care, mental health services, rehabilitation, extended care, and social support—all tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans. Through its dedicated team of professionals, the Salisbury VA Health Care System strives to honor and serve those who have served our country.

Position Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is impossible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA policy.
  • Education: A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine is required.
  • Licensure: Candidates must possess a current, complete, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency: Completion of a residency program in an accredited core specialty.
  • Board Certification: Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Ophthalmology.
  1. Preferred experience in treating medical retina conditions with anti-VEGF therapies, basic glaucoma, and cataracts.
  2. Work Schedule: 8:00-4:30pm
  3. Call Coverage: Per rotation 1 week every 5 weeks

Benefits:

  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.
  • Paid Time Off: 50–55 days of paid time off per year (including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and a possible five-day paid absence for CME).
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (vesting after 5 years) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% contributions by VA.
  • Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
  • Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
  • CME: Possible reimbursement of $2,500 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
  • Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
  • Contract: No physician employment contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.
