POSITION DESCRIPTIONย 

The Department of Philosophy and theย Centre for Medieval Studiesย in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure-stream positionย in Medieval Philosophy.ย This will be aย jointย appointmentย between the Department of Philosophy (75%) and theย Centre for Medieval Studiesย (25%). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, withย an anticipatedย start date of July 1, 2027.ย 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONSย 

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Philosophy, Medieval Studies, or a closely related field by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching covering medieval Latin philosophy. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existingย departmental strengths.ย 
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated through a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications that meet high international standards; the submitted research statement; presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; and strong endorsements from referees.
The successful candidate must be able to teach a wide range of courses in philosophyย and medieval studiesย from the introductory to advanced levels, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.ย Evidence of excellence in teaching will beย demonstratedย through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), and strong letters of reference.ย 


RESPONSIBILITIESย 

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.ย 
In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.ย ย ย 


HIRING SALARY RANGEย 

The expected salary range is $130,000-$170,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience.ย Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.ย
