What is a Dataverse developer?

A Dataverse Developer is a professional who specializes in building, customizing, and maintaining solutions within Microsoft Dataverse, the data platform that underlies Microsoft Power Platform applications. They work with Dataverse to model data, create custom tables, design business logic, and integrate with other Microsoft and external systems. Dataverse Developers often use tools such as Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI to deliver scalable business applications. Their role is essential in enabling organizations to efficiently manage, analyze, and automate their data-driven processes.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Dataverse developer?

To thrive as a Dataverse Developer, you need proficiency in data modeling, Power Platform development, and a solid understanding of relational databases, often backed by experience or certifications in Microsoft Power Platform or Dynamics 365. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Azure integration is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills help you effectively gather requirements and deliver customized business solutions. These skills are crucial for building scalable, secure, and efficient business applications that meet organizational needs.

How does a Dataverse developer typically collaborate with other teams during a project lifecycle?

As a Dataverse Developer, you will frequently work alongside business analysts, solution architects, and end-users to understand data requirements and translate them into effective Dataverse solutions. Collaboration is key, especially during the design and testing phases, where feedback is gathered and incorporated to ensure the application meets business needs. You may also coordinate with Power Platform developers and IT administrators to integrate Dataverse with other Microsoft services, ensuring seamless data flow and security compliance.

Job description

How You’ll Contribute:

We are seeking a highly experienced Solution Architect to own the end-to-end technical and functional architecture for a dual Dynamics 365 program spanning D365 Customer Engagement (CE) and D365 Finance & Operations (F&O). This role is central to implementation of new CE and F&O instances, alongside a complex multi-source ERP data migration into the new environment. The Solution Architect will define the target-state architecture, set data migration and integration strategy, and serve as the primary technical counterpart to our Systems Integrator (SI) partner — validating their designs, resolving technical disputes, and ensuring the delivered solution meets enterprise standards. You will architect the solution and hold the SI/project team accountable to build it correctly, while partnering closely with internal project teams.

Location: Virtual U.S. position; preferred work location/time zone is Eastern (EST/ET) or Central (CST/CT).

What You’ll Do:

  • Own the target-state solution architecture across D365 CE and D365 F&O, including how the two systems integrate (dual-write, Dataverse, custom integration patterns)

  • Design the enterprise data migration architecture across legacy source systems (Great Plains, D365 F&O, Bright Pearl, MAS 100, MAS 200), including source-to-target mapping, data cleansing rules, sequencing, and cutover strategy

  • Act as the primary technical governance point: review and approve technical design documents, functional specifications, and integration designs before build begins

  • Identify and resolve architectural risks, technical debt, and design conflicts raised by the SI, internal team, or business stakeholders

  • Define the integration architecture across CE, F&O, EDI, and any third-party/middleware systems required for go-live

  • Partner with business and project team to translate business requirements into technical and functional design decisions

  • Set standards for security role design, environment strategy (DEV/QA/UAT/PROD), extensibility patterns, and code/configuration governance

  • Own the "build vs. configure vs. customize" decision framework, steering the program toward standard functionality where possible and justifying extensions where necessary

  • Lead architecture review sessions at key program milestones (design sign-off, pre-UAT, pre-cutover)

  • Define the data migration validation and reconciliation approach to confirm accuracy across all five legacy sources post-migration

  • Assess feasibility and technical risk for scope changes raised mid-program and advise PMs and leadership accordingly

  • Document the end-state architecture, integration map, and data lineage for long-term support handoff to the internal Technical Lead

  • Provide technical escalation support during UAT and cutover, working alongside the SI and Technical Lead to triage and resolve critical issues

  • Contribute to and help shape the broader technology roadmap as it relates to the Dynamics ecosystem, including future Power Platform, Dataverse Fabric, and AI/automation opportunities

  • Mentor internal Business Analysts and the Technical Lead on architectural best practices to build long-term internal capability

  • Present architecture decisions, risks, and trade-offs to CIO/ELT-level stakeholders in clear, non-technical business terms when required

What You’ll Bring:

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years in enterprise systems architecture, with at least 5+ years specifically architecting Dynamics 365 solutions

  • Demonstrated experience architecting both D365 CE and D365 F&O — not one or the other — including how they integrate

  • Prior experience leading a multi-source ERP-to-D365 data migration/consolidation; direct exposure to legacy platforms such as Great Plains, Bright Pearl, MAS 90/100/200, or comparable mid-market ERPs is a strong plus

  • Track record architecting greenfield D365 implementations (not just upgrades or extensions of an existing instance)

  • Deep understanding of Dataverse, dual-write, Power Platform integration patterns, and D365 F&O data structures/extension models

  • Proven experience acting as the technical counterparty to a Systems Integrator — reviewing SI design artifacts, holding SI teams accountable, and making final architectural calls

  • Strong grasp of data migration methodology: mapping, cleansing, sequencing, reconciliation, and cutover planning at an enterprise scale

  • Experience defining integration architecture involving EDI and third-party/middleware systems

  • Ability to operate at both a hands-on design level (data models, integration patterns) and an executive communication level (CIO/ELT presentations)

  • Strong facilitation skills — comfortable running architecture review and design sign-off sessions with mixed technical/business audiences

  • Prior experience mentoring technical leads or developers and establishing architectural governance standards

  • Experience working in a PE-backed or high-growth environment where program timelines and board visibility are significant is a plus
