Job description

About the Role:
This is a rare opportunity to step into a highly visible, in-flight Lakehouse transformation and immediately make your mark. A growing enterprise organization is in the middle of migrating its core data platform off legacy SQL infrastructure onto Azure Databricks - and they need a Senior Architect to take the wheel.
You'll own the end-to-end Databricks architecture (Unity Catalog, Medallion architecture, Delta Lake), lead a team of internal engineers, and direct external consulting partners to keep the migration aligned and moving. As the migration ramps down later in the year, you'll help shape what's next - bringing in net-new data sources and expanding analytics and AI/ML capabilities on the platform.
This isn't a "join a team and wait for direction" role. You'll be the final decision-maker on architecture, the go-to technical voice for both internal teams and outside vendors, and a key player in shaping a multi-year data and AI strategy for an organization investing heavily in modernization.
Top Requirements:
  1. Databricks Architecture (8+ years) - Unity Catalog, Medallion architecture, performance tuning, platform maturity and best practices
  2. Azure Data Platform - PySpark, SQL, Delta Live Tables, streaming pipelines, CI/CD, migrating off legacy ETL tooling, partnering with security/networking teams
  3. Vendor & Team Leadership - Lead internal engineers while directing external consulting partners; own final architecture decisions on a high-visibility, in-flight program

Why This Role:
  • High-impact, high-visibility seat at the table during a pivotal platform transformation
  • Direct influence over architecture decisions and long-term data/AI strategy
  • Lead both internal and external teams - true ownership, not just execution
  • Clear runway into expanding AI/ML and GenAI initiatives as the platform matures
  • Ideal for someone who wants to grow into a broader platform/solution leadership track

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years in Data, Analytics, or AI roles, with 4+ years in technical delivery/architecture leadership
  • Proven Databricks Medallion architecture experience end-to-end
  • Hands-on Databricks on Azure (security, networking, identity, storage)
  • Strong Python/PySpark and SQL skills
  • Unity Catalog and enterprise data governance experience
  • Experience managing external vendors/consulting partners on complex programs
  • Track record of longer-tenure roles (3+ years) vs. short-term project work

Nice to Have:
  • Databricks certifications
  • Experience with cloud DWH platforms (Synapse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
  • Databricks AI/ML or GenAI exposure

Key Details
  • Job Title: Databricks Senior Architect
  • Location: Remote (US)
  • Salary Range: $180,000-$200,000 annually
  • Bonus / Equity: Eligible to earn an annual performance bonus. Not equity eligible.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and AD&D insurance, short- and long-term disability, flexible spending account, and an employee assistance program.
