Job description

Cardiovascular Surgeon

MaineHealth Maine Medical Center’s Division of Cardiac Surgery is seeking a full‑time, academic cardiac surgeon, preferably experienced, with an interest in minimally invasive and/or robotically assisted mitral valve repair surgery.

The Cardiac Surgery Program at Maine Medical Center is a well‑established program with an annual volume of 1,500 cases, including coronary revascularization, complex and minimally invasive valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, traditional and convergent MAZE procedures, open and endovascular thoracic aortic procedures, and placement of ventricular assist devices (VADs). There is also an active Valve Clinic performing transcatheter aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve procedures and an aggressive ECMO program.

This position offers:
  • Selected candidate will join 6 adult cardiac surgeons and 1 congenital cardiac surgeon.
  • A brand new, state‑of‑the‑art Cardiovascular Tower at Maine Medical Center.
  • Academic appointment with direct teaching role and mentoring surgical residents and medical students.
  • Participation in the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group and the STS database.
  • Academic opportunities through the MaineHealth Institute for Research; interested candidates should have an interest in clinical or basic research.
Qualifications:
  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Well‑trained cardiothoracic surgeon desiring to practice with a highly skilled, collegial team.
  • Minimally invasive and/or robotically assisted mitral valve repair expertise preferred.
