Job description

Development Intern

The YouthVantage Alliance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented development intern to support our fundraising team. The intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement, and database management. This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a successful development team and to contribute meaningfully to initiatives that empower girls in our community. This position is a part-time, unpaid role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

Donor Engagement Support

  • Assist with donor acknowledgment processes, including preparing thank-you letters, updating donor records, and sending stewardship materials.
  • Support event planning and logistics for fundraising events, donor receptions, and appreciation gatherings.

Research & Prospecting

  • Conduct research on prospective individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Assist in compiling profiles and reports on potential new funders to help grow the donor base.
  • Track and report on current fundraising trends, best practices, and industry standards.

Marketing Support

  • Help draft impact stories, program updates, and content to be shared in donor newsletters, social media, and other communications.
  • Support the development of campaign materials, appeal letters, and other donor engagement content.
  • Create graphics to support development team marketing requests

Administrative Support

  • Provide general administrative support to the development team as needed.
  • Help organize and maintain development materials, both digitally and in hard copy.
  • Conduct data entry and quality checks to ensure consistency and accuracy in the donor database.
  • Participate in team meetings, take notes, and assist with other special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in progress (nonprofit management, public relations, or related field preferred)
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Strong emotional intelligence with a passion for working with diverse groups, good judgement, and professional behavior
  • Regular, punctual attendance and attention to all responsibilities
  • Confidentiality in dealing with participant and organizational information
  • Ability to follow directions, guidelines, and policies/procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant technology (Google Docs, Canva, and Adobe)
