Responsibilities may include writing SQL queries, optimizing database performance, and ensuring data integrity. You will gain hands-on experience with database management systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server. This internship helps build technical skills in data modeling, query optimization, and database administration. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn industry best practices and prepare for a full-time developer role.

What kinds of projects or tasks will I typically work on as a database developer intern?

As a Database Developer Intern, you'll often assist with designing, implementing, and optimizing database structures, writing and refining SQL queries, and supporting data migration or integration tasks. You might also participate in database testing, help maintain data quality, and document database processes or procedures. Collaboration with other developers, data analysts, and IT staff is common, giving you valuable exposure to how teams manage and use data across different projects. These experiences not only build your technical skills but also provide insight into industry best practices and workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a database developer intern?

To excel as a Database Developer Intern, you should have a foundational understanding of database concepts, SQL programming, and data modeling, often supported by coursework in computer science or information technology. What We're Looking For

HCIactive is a forward-thinking, highly experienced AI development organization that has fully transformed into an AI-first development shop. We are looking for a highly motivated AI Developer Intern for a 90-day summer internship / trial period, with the shared intention of transitioning into a full-time role immediately afterward if the fit is strong for both the candidate and HCIactive. • High enthusiasm for bleeding-edge AI technologies, including AI-assisted development, prompt-driven workflows, and modern AI tooling.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to take initiative, ask good questions, and move work forward independently.
  • Ability to follow mature engineering patterns, since HCIactive has been using AI-assisted development practices for over three years and has well-established workflows.

  • Experience with AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools is a strong plus. Must have Cursor experience.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adopt HCIactive's AI development toolkits, coding standards, and implementation patterns within the 90 day internship period.
