We are seeking Systems Engineer interns across our Technology organization. As an intern, you will take on meaningful work, engage in out-of-the-box problem solving, and participate in global case challenges and impactful initiatives. You will get the chance to work with multiple teams, systems, and products through a wide variety data sources. From technology to business, we are looking for people who can innovate, collaborate and bring Visa into the next level of a rapidly evolving digital marketplace.
During the internship, you will work on one or more hands-on projects with the team. Our summer internship also equips you with social and professional networking events and developmental workshops, designed to provide you the resources and training to have an impactful summer.
As a Systems Engineer Intern, you will support our Infrastructure Reliability Engineering team within our larger Operations & Infrastructure technology organization at Visa.
Infrastructure Reliability Engineering
On the Infrastructure Reliability Engineering team, we are looking for interns with a dedicated interest in infrastructure storage engineering. You will be an integral part of a global infrastructure team, providing follow-the-sun support to Visa's systems worldwide.
This Systems Engineer intern position is within the Storage Operations Team and falls under Global Systems Support. This position will support, certify, and document storage and backup infrastructure, as well as serve as a Level 2 escalation point for existing infrastructure. This position is expected to interact with our Systems, Database, Engineering, Asset Management, Product Development, Operations, and Audit and Risk teams, as well as various other groups within Technology. This role requires strong communication and analytical skills.
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for the ongoing maintenance, security, and availability of Storage and SAN infrastructure based on business requirements, and adhering to tight operational, security, and procedural models

  • Automate infrastructure tasks to reduce repetitive or time-consuming processes, utilizing SRE principles/practices and an Infrastructure-as-Code methodology

  • Complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration, and documentation for our Open Systems Storage and Backup environments

  • Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise to support complex Storage & Backup devices, including SAN, NAS, and Backup solutions across all tiers (under minimal supervision)

Skills You Bring:
  • Experience working in an infrastructure support role and/or a keen interest in learning the role of an infrastructure support engineer in the storage realm

  • An interest in scripting/coding for infrastructure automation

All Visa roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to support everyday work.
Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, CIS/MIS, Cybersecurity, or a related field, graduating December 2027-August 2028.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Foundational programing knowledge (Python, Golang, BASH, COBOL, Visual Basic, Java, C/C++, YAML, or similar technology)
  • Familiarity with Software Configuration Management best practices and standards, as well as Software Development Lifecycle fundamentals/tools (VSCode, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Artifactory)
  • Understanding of ITIL framework, DevOps concepts
  • Proficiency in Python coding and infrastructure automation
    Interest in learning storage technologies and working in an infrastructure support role
  • Experience with UNIX (Linux, AIX, Solaris), VMware or other hypervisors, and Windows operating environments
  • Monitoring, Tuning, Troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, results-oriented, and adaptable to change
  • Proven organizational, analytical, and practical problem solving skills
  • Attention to quality and customer service
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively
  • Strong team player and excellent interpersonal skills

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated hourly range for a new hire into this position is $39 to $46 which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

This is a hybrid position: Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
