JOB SUMMARY

This role encompasses thedesign, installation, configuration, and maintenance of IMS Full Function, HALDB and IMS Fastpath databaseswithin az/OS Parallel Sysplex environment. Key responsibilities also includeperforming database performance tuning, monitoring, and optimizationto guaranteehigh availability and responsiveness. The individual willmanage and administer Hierarchical Access Method (HALDB) databases, including their partition definition and management, anddevelop, implement, and maintain comprehensive database backup and recovery strategies. The position requires knowledge of IBM and BMC Utilities and knowledge of PSB/DBD/ACB generation and implementation along with working knowledge of DBRC. Furthermore, this position requires providingexpert-level support for IMS-related issues, encompassing problem diagnosis, resolution, and root cause analysis. Collaboration is crucial, involving work withapplication development teams, system programmers, and other infrastructure teamsto ensure the seamless integration and support of IMS applications. Adherence toHighmark's data governance policiesis essential. The role also involvesparticipation in anon-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical IMS systems.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take a lead role to create, develop, and review the physical model created from the logical model, ensuring that the detailed physical design of data structures and databases complies with standards, guidelines and procedures recommended for all aspects of more complex data modeling, database design, and maintenance.
  • Take a lead role to provide support for application staff and business areas regarding more complex database implementations, which could include a customized in-house database and/or a third party application package.
  • Establish automated monitor mechanism for space and database availability conditions. Establish best practices for database and application high availability through the use of third party technologies and through the exploitation of various database features.
  • Take a lead role in providing applications support for staff, as well as, outside division to answer questions and resolve problems related to the DBMS technology and computing platform such as Z/OS, UNIX, Linux, and Windows
  • Take a lead role in conducting root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems impacting more complex application and/or database availability and service levels.
  • Contact vendor support when necessary to facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.
  • Provide after hours and weekend support as required for on call responsibilities, database refreshes, testing, technology upgrades, and other off hour assignments.
  • Take a lead role and participates in establishing and maintaining technical standards, departmental procedures, and other technical documentation as required. Assure compliance to required Corporate standards, procedures, guidelines and processes, including audits.
  • Take a lead role in identifying, developing, and providing technology training to the application developers of the organization (formal and informal).
  • Participate in staff training opportunities (formal and informal) relative to rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.
  • Take a lead role and participates as assigned to intra and inter-departmental project initiatives.
  • Participate as assigned in the testing and recommendation of more complex tools and utilities to improve the effectiveness of managing and supporting the database environments.
  • Maintain contacts with other DBA professionals externally in other Health Insurance/Health Care industries and/or other industries to maintain a perspective of current trends and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Pay Range Minimum:

$94,200.00

Pay Range Maximum:

$151,000.00

Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate's qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations.
