Job Description

Lead Consultant - Database Administrator

About Allstate Identity Protection

Allstate Identity Protection, formerly InfoArmor, is a wholly owned subsidiary and business unit of Allstate, focused on making digital life easier, safer, and more rewarding through innovative protection against digital fraud. Our mission is to help members live confidently online.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a hands-on, highly experienced Database Administrator Lead Consultant to join a small, collaborative database engineering team supporting enterprise data platforms used by millions of consumers. This role combines deep technical database administration with performance optimization, security, reliability engineering, and modernization across mission-critical environments.

This is an opportunity for someone who does more than maintain systems. We are looking for a proactive technical leader who can assess the environment, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive solutions forward without waiting to be directed. The ideal candidate is a go-getter who enjoys solving complex problems, partnering across teams, and helping shape a more scalable, secure, and resilient database ecosystem.

What You'll Do

  • In this role, you will administer and support enterprise database platforms including SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL/MariaDB, and PostgreSQL. You will monitor, tune, and optimize database performance, availability, and reliability while supporting installations, upgrades, patching, lifecycle management, and capacity planning.

  • You will also support high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including clustering, replication, backup, and recovery strategies. A key focus for this role will include supporting active-active disaster recovery capabilities and helping ensure database environments are designed for resilience across critical production systems.

  • You will partner closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and data engineering stakeholders to troubleshoot application performance issues, improve database design, strengthen security and access controls, and contribute to automation and modernization initiatives.

Why This Role Matters

  • Our database platforms support critical services at scale, and this role will help ensure those environments remain reliable, secure, performant, and ready for future growth.

  • If you are a seasoned SQL Server database professional who enjoys leading from the front, improving complex environments, and partnering across teams to solve meaningful technical problems, this role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact.

Leadership Profile We're Looking For

  • Take ownership of complex database challenges and proactively recommend improvements.

  • Lead through influence while working across application, infrastructure, and data engineering teams.

  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Balance hands-on execution with strategic thinking around performance, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

  • Navigate growing data environments, including large-scale communications data, and help determine practical ways to optimize cost, performance, and platform fit.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration.

  • Experience with additional database platforms such as MongoDB, MySQL, or MariaDB.

  • Strong expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, security, backup/recovery, and Always On Availability Groups.

  • Experience supporting databases in virtualized environments.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database, application connectivity, and data integration issues.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder partnership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Nutanix or other enterprise virtualization platforms.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL administration and support.

  • Experience with SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures.

  • PowerShell scripting and database automation experience.

  • Experience with MongoDB replica sets, production upgrades, and monitoring tools.

  • Experience with MySQL/MariaDB replication and enterprise platform support.
