We are seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) with strong Microsoft SQL Server and Azure experience to support the reliability, performance, security, and day-to-day operation of our database environment.

This is a hands-on, mid-level role for someone who is comfortable managing production databases, troubleshooting performance and availability issues, supporting application and development teams, and ensuring that sensitive business and customer data is protected in accordance with established security and compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate combines solid database administration skills with practical experience in Microsoft Azure, data security, access controls, backup and recovery, monitoring, and compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

All lawful directives of your supervisor or a member of Company management.

Database Administration & Operations

·         Administer, monitor, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server databases in production and non-production environments.

·         Support Azure-hosted database environments, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server running in Azure, as applicable.

·         Monitor database health, availability, capacity, storage, and performance.

·         Troubleshoot database performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, failed jobs, and other production issues.

·         Perform database installations, configuration, upgrades, patching, and maintenance.

·         Develop and maintain database backup, restore, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.

·         Regularly test database restores and recovery processes to ensure recoverability.

·         Manage SQL Server Agent jobs, maintenance plans, alerts, and scheduled database processes.

·         Assist development teams with query optimization, indexing strategies, database deployments, and production troubleshooting.

·         Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for database-related production issues.

Azure Database Administration

·         Support databases and related services within the Microsoft Azure environment.

·         Monitor Azure database performance, utilization, availability, and cost.

·         Configure and maintain appropriate Azure database security and networking controls.

·         Support high availability, replication, backup, geo-redundancy, and disaster recovery configurations.

·         Work with Azure monitoring and logging capabilities to identify operational and security issues.

·         Assist with migration and modernization of on-premises SQL Server workloads to Azure where appropriate.

Data Security & Compliance

·         Implement and maintain database security controls designed to protect confidential, customer, and business-sensitive information.

·         Manage database users, roles, permissions, service accounts, and privileged access using least-privilege and role-based access control principles.

·         Support encryption of sensitive data at rest and in transit.

·         Monitor and audit database access and privileged activity.

·         Maintain database logging and audit records necessary to support security investigations and compliance requirements.

·         Assist with vulnerability remediation, security reviews, penetration-test findings, and database hardening.

·         Participate in periodic user-access reviews and ensure unnecessary or outdated database permissions are removed.

·         Support internal and external audits by providing database security configurations, access records, logs, and other requested evidence.

·         Work with IT and security teams to ensure database environments comply with applicable company policies, contractual requirements, and data protection standards.

·         Assist with data retention, archival, secure deletion, and data lifecycle requirements.

·         Identify database security risks and recommend appropriate remediation.

Required Qualifications

·         2-3 years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.

·         Practical experience supporting production databases in Microsoft Azure.

·         Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration, configuration, monitoring, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.

·         Experience with T-SQL and troubleshooting database queries and stored procedures.

·         Understanding of database indexing, execution plans, locking, blocking, and performance optimization.

·         Experience managing database authentication, roles, permissions, and privileged access.

·         Working knowledge of encryption, secure connectivity, database auditing, and logging.

·         Experience with database backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.

·         Familiarity with Azure monitoring, security, identity, and networking concepts.

·         Understanding of security and compliance principles related to sensitive and personally identifiable information.

·         Ability to document database configurations, procedures, recovery processes, and security controls.

·         Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

·         Ability to work effectively with infrastructure, security, application development, and business teams.
