Role Overview
An experienced Database Administrator is sought to join a growing infrastructure team supporting enterprise SQL Server environments and Epic electronic health record systems. This role is responsible for the administration, performance tuning, maintenance, security, upgrades, and overall health of a large-scale Microsoft SQL Server environment. The DBA will work with Epic and healthcare application teams as the organization expands its Epic footprint.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments, including approximately 160 SQL Server instances.
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, and security.
  • Perform SQL Server patching, upgrades, installations, and maintenance activities.
  • Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Optimize database performance through tuning and configuration improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Maintain database integrity, consistency, and reliability.
  • Partner with Epic application teams to support healthcare technology initiatives.
  • Assist with capacity planning and future database growth strategies.
  • Develop and maintain SQL code and database automation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data security and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server administration experience within the healthcare industry.
Technical Skills: Experience supporting SQL Server versions 2016 through 2022. Strong understanding of database maintenance, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability concepts, security and access management, and SQL troubleshooting and optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Epic or EMR/EHR support experience.
  • Healthcare systems experience within hospitals or health systems.
  • Experience with Citrix and VMware environments.
  • Microsoft SQL certifications.
Work Environment
The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with occasional after-hours support required for upgrades and patching activities. This position offers a flexible remote work arrangement for an Oklahoma-based team member. The team consists of a hiring manager and two additional DBAs.
