Description/Duties First review of applications will be Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and weekly thereafter as needed. This vacancy is in the Police Department's Information Technology (IT) Division. The Information Technology (IT) Engineer III class provides skilled technical services in support of installation, configuration, testing, integration, and ongoing support for City applications and infrastructure that require an in-depth knowledge of the City's platforms and environment, in support of meeting availability and performance goals.

This class has a high level of responsibility for supported systems and projects and is responsible for the success of projects and operational systems of any size. Employees in this class are required to participate in team on-call support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This class is an FLSA-exempt computer professional.

Database Administrator Assignment: The City of Mesa Police Department is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to perform all database support and troubleshooting tasks, including production-related work such as full development life-cycle support for database applications, monitoring and tuning production performance, creating and defining database files, and making capacity estimates for development and production systems. Provides design, development, implementation, maintenance, and testing of database application systems; performs program performance troubleshooting and error debugging, including current and future storage allocation requirements. Supports staff in the use of database software products for business applications, queries, and reporting; includes development of stored procedures, views, and functions for accessing and retrieving data.

This position is part of the Data Services team, which is responsible for identifying, gathering, and combining structured and unstructured data from multiple data sources using ETL processes. The team transforms data for ease of use in visualization and dashboarding tools. The position will participate in the design and maintenance of the Data Warehouse.

They may also participate in architecture, standards, process design, and platform administration related to data management activities, such as integration platforms, data catalogs, and cloud data services. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.) As a member of the Police Department's Information Technology unit, you will work with the technology team on best practices and participate as a database expert on project teams for new implementations and upgrades. Participate in an on-call rotation with their team to resolve after-hours issues with database availability, patching, and storage management

Administering Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI. Perform routine database administration such as running change scripts, granting security, migrating reports, restoring backups, and other server administration tasks. Performs database administration functions such as sizing databases, creating users, databases, schemas, roles, views, data dictionaries, indexes, batch processing jobs, procedures, and functions.

Maintains user and system security for data integrity, coordinates with department staff on requests and changes. Monitors database and optimizes performance to gain efficiencies and maximize return on investment. Supports staff in the use of database software products for business applications, queries, and reporting; includes development of stored procedures, views, and functions for accessing and retrieving data.

Assists in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and testing of database application systems; assists in program performance troubleshooting and error debugging; includes current and future storage allocation requirements. About the Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have strong professional experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Excel, data modeling, usability design, visualizations, unstructured information analysis, data warehousing, functional requirements analysis, and business analytics: administering Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI. Additional preferred qualifications include: Experience with Power Bl, SQL Server Management Studio, Data Management tools, ETL tools (FME, SSIS), metrics, reports, and dashboards.

Well-rounded knowledge of IT concepts regarding networking, server, storage, firewall, application architecture patterns, monitoring, security, DR planning, and user authentication. Intermediate to advanced skill level in coding SQL and data warehouse design and implementation. Experience with Server management tools, DevOps, and administrative scripting with PowerShell.

The candidate should also be highly proficient in understanding business processes, performing business analysis, communicating in written and verbal forms, and have a track record of excellent customer service skills, experience developing and maintaining technical documentation, and the ability to work in teams or independently.
