Capitol Indemnity Corporation (dba CapSpecialty) is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to work at our Middleton, Wisconsin office.  This is a hybrid position – individuals are expected to work in the Middleton office at least 3 days a week.  The Senior Infrastructure Engineer provides enterprise design and planning, installation, configuration, documentation, training, and day-to-day support of IT services related to the operation, performance, security, and availability of data, application, and infrastructure-related systems. The  individual builds servers, analyzes system performance, provides troubleshooting and root cause analysis, recommends adjustments, and prepares proposals for a variety of complex business application and network infrastructure functions and ensures cost effective performance, high availability, security and reliability of network systems, business applications, and other services.  The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will also:

  • Design, implement and manage environments for network-based business applications.  Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures when building and maintaining these environments.  Work with the application teams to optimize stability and performance, analyze problems, recommend solutions, and implement improvements and document results.
  • Perform routine operational system management including administration, performance monitoring, backup/recovery, and problem resolution.  Monitor systems for stability, availability, security, capacity, and performance.  Analyze problems, recommend solutions, implement improvements, and document results.  Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the consistent and effective application of the CapSpecialty Security Program and policies to all design, implementation, and management tasks.  Responsible for appropriate escalation and handling of security incidents per all applicable policies.
  • Research new technology and solutions that enable CapSpecialty staff to perform their work more effectively, provide ease of doing business for our agents, or generate cost savings.
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, instruction, and documentation to Help Desk Support Analysts, system and database analysts, business analysts, project managers and the business.  Handle other network and server administration tasks and activities as assigned.

Qualified individuals must have a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.  The individual will also have 8 years of systems administration and network engineering experience.  As part of the 8 years of systems administration and network engineering experience, the qualified individual must have:

  • 5 years in an enterprise environment supporting business-critical applications in a mixed operating system environment.
  • 5 years experience with Infrastructure automation, scripting or development of tools/applications to improve system operations and user experience is required.
  • 5 years experience configuring network components and servers supporting web-based and cloud-based applications, enterprise databases, and other network resources.
  • 5 years specific experience with Microsoft Windows, Linux, VMware, Citrix, IIS, Office365, Exchange, cloud-based compute and storage, security/protection software, monitoring systems, network management systems, Oracle, and SQL databases.
