What is a data warehouse BI developer?

Data Warehouse BI Developers are IT professionals who design, develop, and maintain data warehouse systems to support business intelligence (BI) solutions. They help organizations collect, store, and analyze large volumes of data by building efficient data models, writing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and creating dashboards and reports. Their work enables businesses to make data-driven decisions by providing accessible and reliable insights from complex data sources. Typically, they work closely with data analysts, database administrators, and business stakeholders to ensure data quality and meet organizational reporting needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data warehouse BI developer?

To thrive as a Data Warehouse BI Developer, you need strong expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, SQL, and experience with data warehousing concepts, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with BI tools (such as Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS), ETL platforms (like Informatica or SSIS), and relevant certifications are highly valued. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills and qualities are essential for building reliable data systems that support insightful business decision-making.

What are the most common challenges faced by data warehouse BI developers when integrating data from multiple sources?

Data Warehouse BI Developers often encounter challenges related to data consistency, quality, and format when integrating data from various sources such as databases, APIs, and flat files. Ensuring that data from disparate systems aligns correctly—especially with differences in data structures, naming conventions, and update frequencies—can be complex. Addressing issues like duplicate records, missing values, and data latency requires strong ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) skills and close collaboration with data owners and business analysts. These challenges make attention to detail and problem-solving abilities crucial for success in this role.

Job description

This posting is for a contract assignment and is not a full-time employment offer with Boeing. Candidates selected for roles will be employed as contract workers through a Boeing approved 3rd party for the duration of the specified project.

Regular and predictable attendance is required

Boeing is seeking a highly motivated Data Solution Architect to join our Test & Evaluation team in Tukwila, WA. This role is within the Data Management team in the Structural Test Labs, and supports effective business operations and test execution through robust data management practices, scalable integration, and trusted reporting.

In this role, you will deliver governed, reusable data products—ranging from Power BI dashboards and curated datasets to controlled data stores with clear lineage and access controls. You will be expected to translate stakeholder needs into scalable solutions by defining data requirements, shaping data models, and establishing fit-for-purpose governance (definitions, quality checks, and documentation) to ensure consistent use across teams. You will also drive workflow automation and digitization using Power Apps, Power Automate, and SharePoint, reducing manual effort and improving process standardization and auditability. Success in this role requires strong cross-functional coordination, a bias for leveraging existing enterprise tooling, and a disciplined approach to version control, sustainment, and operational stability.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, customer-focused problem solver who can work comfortably across technical and non-technical teams, bring structure to ambiguous requirements, and deliver practical solutions with strong attention to data quality and governance. They have hands-on experience building and sustaining solutions in the Microsoft 365/Power Platform ecosystem, and they take ownership from initial concept through deployment, user adoption, and continuous improvement.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize internal data solutions supporting data warehouse/BI, data lake integration, and master data/governance needs for Structural Test Labs.
  • Partner with project managers, business leaders, lab engineers, IT focal teams, and data scientists/architects to translate operational/test needs into durable data products (datasets, models, dashboards, and workflows).
  • Establish and maintain data management practices that emphasize data quality, traceability/lineage, documentation, and controlled access.
  • Enable and sustain Power BI reporting capabilities (e.g., curated datasets/semantic alignment, refresh strategy, certified/shared datasets where applicable).
  • Build and sustain M365-based solutions using SharePoint (lists/libraries, permissions, information organization) as part of data/process workflows.
  • Drive automation and workflow digitization using Power Apps and Power Automate to reduce manual effort, improve data integrity, and standardize recurring processes.
  • Integrate datasets from multiple sources using existing enterprise tools/connectors, emphasizing reuse, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Apply version control practices (e.g., Git) to manage solution artifacts and promote repeatable delivery; leverage CI/CD where feasible.
  • Provide guidance to data and analytics teammates on data standards, reuse, operational stability, and solution sustainment commensurate with level.
  • Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of professional experience in data solutions, analytics, data architecture, data engineering, or related roles.
  • Experience delivering solutions using Power BI (dashboards and/or governed datasets supporting reporting).
  • Experience building solutions leveraging Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.
  • Proficiency/experience driving automation using Power Apps and Power Automate (requirements through deployment/sustainment).
  • Experience with data management fundamentals (e.g., data definitions, data quality, access control, documentation/lineage concepts).
  • Experience using a version control tool (e.g., Git) in a team environment.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications/Desired Skills:
  • Experience integrating data across a data warehouse and/or data lake environment (cloud experience a plus; Azure preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with master/reference data concepts and governance workflows (stewardship, standard definitions, controlled change).
  • Experience with low-code data integration/transform patterns and tooling; light SQL proficiency for validation/troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Experience with Power Platform governance concepts (environments, permissions, connectors, DLP policies) and operational best practices.
  • Exposure to CI/CD practices and/or Infrastructure as Code (plus).
