Job description

Overview

Join an iconic brand that is redefining the pickup truck and rugged SUV marketplace. As Senior Staff Technical Product Manager - Service Intelligence for a confidential digital initiative, you will lead the strategy and execution of a foundational backend intelligence platform that powers critical decisionmaking across Scout's directtoconsumer retail and service ecosystem.ย

This role focuses on designing a backenddriven decisioning and orchestration system that evaluates complex, interdependent operational inputs to produce reliable, scalable outcomes in real time. The platform is being built ahead of Start of Operations and will play a central role in how Scout coordinates resources, responds to events, and enables consistent execution across locations. This role operates at a cross-domain level, shaping how multiple systems, products, and operational workflows interact through centralized decision intelligence.ย ย

Initially, there is no enduser interface or traditional UX design responsibility associated with this position; success is defined by system behavior, decision quality, and operational outcomes.ย

This is a deeply technical, AIdriven and analytical role requiring strong systems thinking and comfort operating in a highly ambiguous, 0to1 environment. The successful candidate will help shape core capabilities from the ground up, owning both initial delivery and longterm evolution of a missioncritical intelligence platform while maintaining strict discretion around sensitive product details.ย

What you'll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

Define and Lead Strategyย

  • Define, evolve, and drive the product and ecosystem strategy for a confidential, intelligencedriven core platform supporting Scout's operations and service experience.ย
  • Define how complex operational signals, constraints, and policies are modeled into automated decision logic.ย
  • Lead early-stage platform definition ahead of Start of Operations, building foundational capabilities with no existing baseline.ย
  • Accountable for system performance across Scout's directtoconsumer retail network, ensuring decisions are reliable, explainable, and scalable.ย
  • Influence senior leadership and align platform strategy with long-term company objectives while protecting sensitive capabilities.ย
  • Identify new problem spaces and expansion opportunities for decision intelligence across additional domains and systems.ย

Complex Decisioning & Problem Solvingย

  • Frame and solve highly ambiguous, cross-functional problems through intelligent system design and decision frameworks.ย
  • Model operational constraints, dependencies, and priorities as structured logic, rules, or machineassisted decision frameworks.ย
  • Drive solutions where "missing inputs" require downstream actions to resolve constraints rather than blocking outcomes.ย
  • Navigate ambiguity inherent to 0to1 product development, making informed tradeoffs as requirements and dependencies evolve.ย
  • Evaluate tradeoffs involving accuracy, speed, scalability, and explainability, including intangible system behaviors.ย
  • Ensure system behavior is consistent, explainable, auditable, and adaptable as business rules change.ย

Lead Product Developmentย

  • Guide product development across multiple related initiatives, teams, and domains to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.ย
  • Lead endtoend product development for a highly complex, logicheavy platform from concept through scale.ย
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Data Analytics, AI/ML teams, IT, and Operations to:ย ย
  • Translate operational needs into system logic and technical requirements.ย
  • Define data models, decision flows, signal ingestion, and output generation.ย
  • Balance deterministic rules with AIassisted approaches where appropriate.ย
  • Ensure platform extensibility as new use cases and domains are added over time.ย
  • Establish best practices and frameworks for decisioning platforms adopted across related systems and teams.ย

AI & Intelligence Enablementย

  • Champion the use of AI, machine reasoning, and advanced analytics to enable scalable decisionmaking.ย
  • Define where AI augments human decision processes versus fully automated execution.ย
  • Ensure models and logic are transparent, testable, and continuously improvable.ย
  • Collaborate with data partners to ensure highquality inputs, feedback loops, and monitoring.ย

Stakeholder Leadershipย

  • Influence and align senior leadership, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders on strategy, priorities, and tradeoffs.ย
  • Serve as a trusted partner to Business, Software Engineering, fellow Digital Product Customer Experience team, and Leadership teams.ย
  • Translate complex, crossfunctional needs into a shared technical and product vision without exposing sensitive strategy externally.ย
  • Lead alignment across teams with differing priorities, timelines, and constraints.ย
  • Build longterm trust in the platform through transparency, reliability, and outcomes.ย

Operationalize a PreLaunch Platformย

  • Build readiness for a missioncritical platform before Start of Operations.ย
  • Define rollout strategies, guardrails, fallback behaviors, and manual override paths.ย
  • Ensure the platform supports consistent execution independent of location or context.ย
  • Define scalable operating models for how decision intelligence is embedded across systems and workflows.ย

Drive Technical Excellenceย

  • Drive architectural decisions across systems, data flows, and integrations, balancing long-term scalability with short-term delivery needs.ย
  • Partner with Scrum and platform teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure architectures.ย
  • Define best practices for realtime decisioning systems, data latency, reliability, and observability.ย
  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks in logic complexity, system dependencies, and edge cases.ย
  • Ensure solutions meet enterprise security, privacy, and compliance standards.ย
  • Treat the platform as a living system, ensuring post-launch stability and continuous evolution.ย

Own Live Decision Intelligenceย

  • Own system behavior and decision quality once the platform is live, ensuring outcomes are accurate, explainable, and aligned with operational intent.ย
  • Monitor real-world system decisions to identify gaps, edge cases, and unintended outcomes.ย
  • Lead continuous tuning of logic, rules, thresholds, and AI-driven decision frameworks based on live data.ย
  • Define criteria for acceptable system behavior, including fallback paths, overrides, and escalation mechanisms.ย
  • Use system insights to influence product strategy and operational decision-making at a broader organizational levelย

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in The role will be based out of a Scout Motors location in Fremont, California or Remote.ย
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the companyย from time to time.
What you'll bringย

We expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You'll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You'll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. Here's what else you'll bring:ย

  • 12+ years of product management experience with deep focus on technical platforms, complex systems, or decisioning engines.ย
  • Experience working with AI/ML technologies in a product, engineering, or business contextย
  • Proven experience leading 0to1 products in prelaunch, startup, or transformation environments.ย
  • Track record of building logicheavy or intelligencedriven systems that coordinate multiple inputs and constraints.ย

Technical Expertiseย

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, data architectures, and realtime processing.ย
  • Handson experience working with AI/ML systems, rules engines, optimization problems, or decision frameworks.ย
  • Ability to reason deeply about tradeoffs between accuracy, speed, explainability, and scalability.ย
  • Comfort working closely with engineers and data scientists on system design.ย

  • Strong ability to influence senior leadership and align diverse stakeholders.ย
  • Exceptional analytical and structured problemsolving capabilities.ย
  • Ability to define complex logic and decision flows with precision.ย
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to simplify complexity without oversharing sensitive information.ย
  • Datadriven mindset; comfortable working with metrics, experimentation, and system telemetry.ย
  • High tolerance for ambiguity; energized by building something new where the path is not fully defined.ย

Educationย

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.ย
