Job description

About Fraym
Fraym generates precise, localized data on demographics, attitudes, and behaviors, down to the town or village level. Organizations worldwide use our geospatial data to understand social and economic dynamics, design effective programs, and monitor investments across public health, economic development, climate resilience, security, and humanitarian response. Through survey research, geospatial analysis, and AI/ML, we are building scalable data infrastructure for mapping humanity.
Summary of Position
Fraym is seeking a mid-to-senior level Data Scientist to amplify our team’s NextGen R&D capabilities. Your contributions will support the mapping of demographic and behavioral patterns across some of the world’s most data-scarce regions. Your work will be split between highly complex, large experiments (75%) and technical mentorship (25%) responsibilities.
We are seeking candidates with a strong data science background and experience working in highly collaborative small teams. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in leveraging models to predict survey and/or geospatial data.:
Your responsibilities include the following:
  • Independently developing workflows and identifying new model applications for company-identified use-cases
  • Contributing to the development of product offerings and capabilities such as machine learning applications, data subscription packages, and inventive data visualizations
  • Serving as a technical resource within the data teams across Fraym, including software engineer, project managers, and technical analysts who are responsible for deploying new and improved methods at scale
  • Collaborating with data science team leadership to determine, drive, and pivot the data science team within the context of our organizational mission

You will have the following qualifications and skills:
  • Master’s Degree or PhD in a related field
  • At least 5 years of working in a data science context, including technical mentorship in a data science, or adjacent, industry

Essential skills:
  • Experience applying and experimenting with a variety of AI models and LLMs in a professional context
  • Working in the nitty gritty of Machine Learning modeling, particularly in validation and interpretation
  • Communicating methodology to non-technical audiences
  • Cloud computing environment (AWS)

Nice to have:
  • Experience with GIS/geostatistics and/or complex survey design
  • Knowledge management experience
  • Experience working with or in the defense sector

Application Requirements
  • Your resume
  • A short statement asking why you are interested in Fraym and this position
  • A work sample - Since we do not have a technical interview to evaluate code that you have produced, we would like to see your past work. A link to your Github or personal portfolio/website are acceptable.

Location
Fully remote within the USA, with travel once or twice a year for retreats and conferences.
