Job description

Data Scientist - Senior - #917
Clearance Required: TS/SCI
Dayton, Ohio - 100% onsite
Position Overview
The Senior Data Scientist applies advanced data engineering, computational programming, and statistical modeling capabilities to develop and deploy data-driven intelligence solutions. Operating on-site under minimal oversight within the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), this role supports the Technology, Data, and Assessment Division (A9A) of the Future Capabilities & Assessment Directorate (NASIC/A9).
The Senior Data Scientist focuses on the hands-on engineering of Intelligent Automation, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning (IA/AI/ML) workflows against complex intelligence datasets. This role is responsible for converting advanced algorithmic models into scalable software factory outputs, creating intuitive analytical dashboards, and ensuring all mathematical solutions securely integrate within the NASIC Unified Cloud (NUC) infrastructure.
Core Responsibilities
  • Advanced AI/ML Coding & Modeling: Performs hands-on software script writing, data modeling, and code modifications to deploy specialized IA/AI/ML techniques, predictive algorithms, and statistical models.
  • Analytical Transformation & Dashboarding: Translates intricate data structures and statistical outputs into actionable insights and dashboards, allowing non-technical mission partners and analysts to easily interpret mission-critical trends.
  • Data Strategy & Infrastructure Integration: Implements data strategies, data flow structures, and cloud architecture requirements to integrate data processing pipelines into modern Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) frameworks.
  • Reporting & Documentation Support: Actively drafts technical content for the monthly Data Science & Analytics Progress Report, accurately measuring algorithm velocity, documentation compliance, and ingestion metrics.
  • Technology Scouting & Prototyping: Assists senior technical leads in technology scouting and evaluations of emerging commercial cloud analytics capabilities. Runs pilot software scripts within non-production environments to determine technical viability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners closely with software engineers, database administrators, and Group product owners to trace requirements and maintain standardized data governance rules across sprint cycles.

Qualifications & Experience
Required:
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience OR a Master's degree and 8 years of experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related computational field.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience processing large-scale datasets, modifying algorithmic software code from technical specifications, and applying advanced analytical strategies with minimal oversight. Strong background using Python, R, and automated pipeline tools inside secure cloud infrastructure (such as DAF Cloudworks).
  • Clearance & Compliance: Active TS/SCI security clearance for 100% on-site support at Wright-Patterson AFB. Demonstrated capability ensuring all code developments comply with strict DoD and Air Force IT standards.

Desired:
  • NASIC Experience: NASIC experience highly desired, not mandatory.
