Job description

This role requires a hybrid schedule and will be based in our New York/Manhattan office (Tuesday through Thursday) and work fully remotely on Mondays and Fridays each week.

In this role, you'll lead a small, high-impact team of data scientists focused on solving meaningful business problems through the development of software products powered by machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI systems. You'll help build our underlying platform capabilities and own a team that is responsible for leveraging to create personalized voice and digital experiences You'll partner closely with product managers, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that drive measurable growth for our stakeholders. 

This role is designed for a true player-coach: someone who can architect and build alongside their team while also providing leadership, direction, and mentorship. You will contribute directly to solution design, author and review production code, scope engagements, and engage directly with partners while simultaneously developing your team's capabilities and scaling impact through others. A central focus of this work is building AI-driven, 1:1 personalized customer-facing products powered by large language models and autonomous agents. Your work will have a visible impact on real customer and partner outcomes and on the business's bottom line.

What You'll Do 

  • Lead a team of 3+ data scientists setting technical direction and priorities, managing performance, and developing careers, including hiring as the team grows. 
  • Architect end-to-end AI/ML and agentic solutions, author first drafts of technical implementations, review pull requests, and uphold high standards for code and system quality. 
  • Partner with Data Science Product Managers, Engineering, Product, and Business leadership to shape and deliver data science initiatives aligned with broader organizational strategy. 
  • Translate ambiguous business and partner problems into well-scoped data science and AI solutions including work breakdown, effort estimation, and delivery planning. 
  • Build and ship LLM-powered and agentic AI systems in production, owning them from prototype through deployment, monitoring, and iteration. 
  • Own technical decision-making for your team, including model and agent architecture, tooling, observability, evaluation strategies, and operational best practices. 
  • Drive a culture of experimentation, measurement, and iteration by defining success metrics and tracking impact over time. 
  • Represent data science in cross-functional and partner-facing discussions, including presenting solutions and progress directly to external stakeholders. 

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's Degree + 8 years of experience OR Master's Degree + 6 years of experience OR PhD + 4 years of experience. 
  • A proven track record delivering production data science solutions using machine learning and/or generative AI. 
  • Hands-on experience building LLM-based and agentic AI systems, with fluency in orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Mastra, OpenAI Agents SDK, or similar tools. 
  • Familiarity with the broader modern AI stack, including large language model providers (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini, Claude) and cloud AI infrastructure such as AWS Bedrock AgentCore. 
  • Solid understanding of the ML/LLM lifecycle and LLMOps/MLOps concepts, including deployment, monitoring, and iteration in production environments-with hands-on experience using tools such as LangSmith, MLflow, or similar platforms. Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code is a plus. 
  • Business acumen and a track record of translating open-ended partner and customer problems into shipped ML solutions, recommendation systems, LLM-driven personalization, agentic products, supervised models of customer behavior, that drive acquisition, retention, and operational outcomes. 
  • Comfort balancing technical depth with clear communication, writing and reviewing code while also scoping work, aligning stakeholders, and supporting team growth. 
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring data scientists, with an interest in growing others while remaining technically engaged. 

Compensation:

New York City Total Cash Compensation Range: $230,000 - 280,000 per year

This role is also eligible for Equity, which is offered separately from the total cash compensation listed above. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.
