We are SLR Consulting (Americas), a 1500+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, the United States, and LATAM. SLR services continuously evolve alongside issues of importance to the oil and gas industry, and we are currently providing support to large multinational and smaller local companies to succeed throughout the energy transition. While our environmental support for traditional oil and gas services has grown, our focus on other energy forms and issues has evolved and now additionally includes liquefied natural gas. renewables, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, carbon capture/sequestration, and decarbonization.

We are now looking for a Principal Consultant to help SLR further grow our oil and gas industry business in the Gulf Coast Region.

Role

As a Principal Consultant, you will play a significant role in growing our Gulf Coast base of oil and gas clients and our team of environmental and sustainability professionals in Texas and Louisiana. We will rely on you to help lead the expansion of our business in the largest oil and gas producing region in the U.S. You will lead consulting projects for key oil and gas clients, expand our oil and gas industry business, mentor rising talent, and foster a culture of growth and excellence.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a trusted advisor to the oil ang gas industry, as well as its regulators and stakeholders.
  • Possess strong technical expertise in environmental management, permitting and compliance solutions for the oil and gas industry, with deep experience supporting one or more of the following industry subsectors: petroleum exploration and production, petroleum refining, natural gas liquefaction, petrochemical manufacturing, and logistics pipelines and terminals.
  • Exhibit deep knowledge of the U.S. environmental regulations applicable to the oil and gas industry, as well as a firm understanding of applicable state-specific requirements.
  • Be a thought leader in environmental compliance solutions for the oil and gas Industry.
  • Have a proven and sustained record of successful business development, client relationship management, and proposal management for the oil and gas industry which has contributed to consulting sales growth,
  • Have a long-term record of nurturing consultancy client loyalty, retention, and service expansion.
  • Leverage market, client, and competitor knowledge and insights to build successful sales strategies.
  • Maintain a book of active and diverse clients representing Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream oil and gas developers, owners, and operators.
  • Maintain a strong network of oil ang gas industry contacts, as well as other business contacts/potential teaming partners (e.g., legal, or analytical service providers) that support the oil and gas industry.
  • Support SLR colleagues with cross-selling established oil and gas clients.
  • Drive positioning, value proposition, and differentiation to crystalize messaging for oil and gas client presentations and proposals.
  • Share market intelligence, insights, and competitive intelligence with SLR energy sector leaders and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with SLR energy sector leaders across the Americas and globally to evaluate client needs and market changes to identify new opportunities or new services.
  • Lead significant projects for important oil and gas clients to ensure successful delivery, increase knowledge and understanding of client needs, and facilitate repeat sales.
  • Mentor SLR staff in effective marketing and sales techniques.
  • Utilize excellent communication and writing skills to develop and/or review proposals, sales literature, project documents, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop case studies, white papers, webinars, and external communications to expand awareness of SLR.

Responsibilities

  • Apply extensive environmental, regulatory, and technical knowledge of the oil and gas industry to design and deliver effective environmental management, permitting and compliance services to upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas clients.
  • Be client facing and leverage deep expertise in environmental management, permitting, and compliance to effectively advance client strategies and cultivate new client relationships.
  • Develop effective marketing strategies and sales tactics that lead to increased oil and gas business.
  • Cultivate long-term client satisfaction, retention, and loyalty.
  • Develop successful approaches to identify new opportunities and develop winning value propositions and proposals.
  • Provide clear, concise business-focused findings, recommendations, and options regarding client documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor and/or Master of Science degree(s) in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 15-20 years' experience in providing successful environmental management, permitting and compliance consulting services to the oil and gas sector, including demonstrated success leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong experience in consulting, client relationship management, and business development.
  • Experience in delivering environmental management, permitting, and compliance support to oil and gas clients covering topics such as air, water, and waste management; pollution control measures; oil pollution prevention; resource conservation; environmental modeling and monitoring; waste characterization, treatment, and disposal; toxic chemical control; and other environmental issues of importance to the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. and state environmental regulations and permitting requirements applicable to the Gulf Coast oil and gas industry, with strong experience in regulatory applicability analysis and interpretation.
  • Established reputation in the oil and gas industry, with demonstrated credibility and visibility through regulatory engagement, client relationships, published work, conference participation, or industry association involvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, including negotiation, facilitation, and executive-level presentation.
  • Strong written communication skills for proposal/report writing, technical and marketing presentations, and peer review capabilities.
