Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity to provide quality patient care at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre (Long Term Care setting). Nestled near the Porcupine Hills, Claresholm is a small, tight knit community close to many outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, and camping. The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides patient care services as a regulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The primary duties include: performing tasks related to activities of daily living, deescalating residents, working as a team, and ensuring comfort and safety of the patient at all times. Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations necessary. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills within a team setting. Maintains a standard of high-quality care, self-directed and motivated. Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients and families, ability to relate to clients in a caring manner with respect and dignity. Ability to work collaboratively with team members is essential. Physical ability to assist with lifting, turning, and transferring adult patients essential. Ability to handle the physical demands of the HCA position. Good attendance as demonstrated in reference check. Medication course required when working day/night rotations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with seniors and cognitively impaired individuals. Ability to utilize safe transferring and lifting equipment (i.e. It's your Move certification) considered an asset. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Non-Violence Crisis Intervention training. Previous nursing attendant experience in Long Term Care or Supportive Living. Supportive Pathways, or Dementia training. English Proficiency to an English 20-2 level.
