JOB DESCRIPTION:
SBI Consultants is currently looking for a Data Science Engineer (DSE) to join our team.
The Data Science Engineer supports the company's ongoing data infrastructure transformation by helping implement and maintain a centralized data architecture that enables analytics-driven decision-making across the organization. This role blends technical expertise in data engineering and analytics with practical understanding of business operations, especially within the construction industry.
The Data Science Engineer works closely with senior team members to design and optimize data systems, develop analytical models, and support AI/ML-driven initiatives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data Architecture & Engineering:
Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a centralized multimodal database to support organizational business objectives
Build and optimize data pipelines for automated ETL processes across structured and unstructured data sources
Support continuous data ingestion for project lists, metadata, cost data, and schedule information
Contribute to defining and applying data governance frameworks, quality standards, and workflow protocols
Coordinate with project managers and engineers to ensure accurate, timely data collection and updates
Monitor database performance and report findings, issues and opportunities for optimization
AI/ML Development & Advanced Analytics:
Contribute to the development and deployment of AI models and machine learning algorithms for:
Complex querying of scope, quantities, costs, and schedules
Value engineering optimization
Risk mitigations & predictive analytics
Support the creation of analytical models to evaluate costs, schedules, potential savings, and risk factors
Aid in developing of benchmarking tools segmented by sector and project type
Conduct historical data analysis to identify trends and patterns
Support strategic decision-making through data-driven insights
Business Intelligence & Visualization:
Maintain and enhance existing Power BI dashboards with rigorous quality controls
Support the design and implementation of portfolio-level dashboards with key performance indicators (KPIs)
Train internal staff on data literacy and dashboard utilization
Facilitate data analysis and support cross-functional teams in deriving actionable insights
Ensure timely and accurate project data visualization
Technology Support:
Research emerging data technologies, AI tools, and analytics platforms
Provide part-time support for projects and cost management activities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree in Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science or related field from an accredited university. Master degree preferred.
2+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML.
Experience assisting in AI/ML model development, testing, and deployment in production environments; recent exposure (within past 1-2 yrs) to modern AI technologies including LLMs.
Experience building or contributing to data pipelines, ETL workflows and data architecture design.
Demonstrated experience working with large-scale structured and unstructured datasets
Preferred but not required: Familiarity with construction industry data, cost estimating methodologies, and project management systems
Experience with construction-specific software and data structures
Understanding of project lifecycle data from planning through closeout
A Plus: Relevant professional certifications in cloud platforms, data engineering, or machine learning such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar cloud platform certifications; Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate; Professional certifications in data science or machine learning (e.g., Google Professional Data Engineer)
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams including engineering, project management, and executive leadership. Excellent communication skills to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Ability to establish productive interpersonal working relationships and engage across all levels of the organization.
