DATA MINING ANALYST

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
This project requires the collection and reporting of data to produce leads for actionable investigative reports predicated upon data research of government and commercial data systems to verify status of potential status violators. The reports produced are automated and disseminated to the government client. We perform data entry from multiple client systems, other intelligence sources, and law enforcement databases and generate an analysis of the collected information. This requires Investigative Research Analysts to input collected information into a database and produce summary products in support of Homeland Security Law Enforcement.

Responsibilities:

The Data Mining Analysts primary task will be to act as a liaison between the Government client and the technical staff to provide accurate and timely reporting of statistics. Required to conduct statistical analysis on data and information to ensure correct predictive forecasting or classification. Manages all aspects of end-to-end data processing utilizing customized report building functions of systems. The Analyst will also be responsible for understanding the process of building reports (leads).

  • Evaluate the database needs of our applications and optimize them using MongoDB & Python
  • Research, develop, and test queries using Mongo & Python data analytic tools
  • Analyze, query, and extract data from Mongo & Python databases as part of client adhoc requests
  • Understanding of Big Data tools (e.g. MongoDB, Python, JavaScript, NoSQL, PowerBI)
  • Conducting trend analysis
  • Evaluating statistical methods and advanced technical research techniques to develop strategies based on client requirements
  • Analyzing data integrity and consistency to obtain a quantitative basis for decision making and resource allocation
  • Developing strategies to exploit the various internal and external data sources to refine the intelligence analysis process
  • Providing written reports as required
  • Proficiency in MS Access and Excel
  • Assimilating, integrating, and interfacing technical knowledge with business / systems requirements
  • Create high-level reports for client and upper levels of DHS
  • Monitoring report requests and providing end-user support to internal and external client
  • Completing quality projects timely and accurately
  • Analyzing current and potential systems for conversions
  • Conduct analytical research in support of assigned Criminal Investigative Mission

Qualifications:

Required Minimum Education/Experience:Bachelor's Degree or higher in any discipline with two (2) or more years of related experience in analysis of bulk data sets to include entry and extraction of target data, statistical analyses, and reporting. Must possess a core understanding and experience in navigating and writing queries using one or more of the following coding languages: JSON, SQL, Python, and/or JavaScript to extract data out of a NoSQL (not only SQL) database. Experience in big data sets with a strong understanding of coding principles, methodologies, and best practices.

Theideal candidate has a strong understanding of MongoDB & Python with a strong understanding of coding principles, methodologies, and best practices, as well as working in the backend of various databases, a team player who is a quick learner, asks questions, takes initiative, and produces accurate work. They are proactive, learn and understand the customer's SOPs and complete tasks with no errors. This is a fast-paced environment; successful analysts have excellent time management skills and work well under pressure.

Hours:M-F, generally 8 hour workday aligned with core hours of 8 AM to 4 PM, though will depend on mission requirements. Hours could float between 6 AM 10 PMdepending on unit requirements

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $70,658 - $81,650. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
