Job description

A day in the life:

At Hertz, our senior data scientists are responsible developing and defining best practices for analytical methods to generate informative research, reports, visualizations, and dashboards using internal and external data to provide actionable and strategic insights.

You will work closely with data engineers, analysts, software developers and product managers within the business to deliver new and exciting products and services. Your main objective is to leverage advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to deeply understand our product performance and generate insights to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness by enabling proactive data-driven decisions across the organization. This includes fostering collaboration, building partnerships, co-developing products, sharing knowledge, providing insights and valuable predictive information to business teams and leaders to highlight potential risks and opportunities that initiate the drive for change.

The role of the incumbent is to work on impactful strategic initiatives and use state of the art technologies to solve complex problems to enable and optimize our digital, connected fleet, pricing, and ridesharing products.

The starting salary for this role is $105K; commensurate with experience.

What You'll Do:

  • Dissect and solve complex business problems by applying analytical and machine learning techniques to uncover patterns and correlations in large, complex datasets

  • Own end-to-end ML model development: problem framing, data architecture scoping, feature engineering, model design, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, monitoring

  • Analyze and define success and performance metrics for current and new business initiatives, with a specific focus on A/B tests

  • Design and maintain robust ETL processes to ensure data integrity and accessibility

  • Build and maintain descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models to measure the performance of the new products and services

  • Define and implement best practices to generate accurate analytics, reports, visualizations, and dashboards to explain results simply and succinctly to technical, non-technical, and senior management

  • Integrate and curate data from a wide range of internal and external sources to develop detailed reports and datasets for predictive modelling

  • Liaise with stakeholders within the company to understand their needs and concerns and develop concise analytics to provide actionable insights to influence strategy and performance

  • Guide business leaders with confidence in your analytics and reporting to ensure smooth execution

  • Oversee the upkeep and optimization of current ETL pipelines and dashboards

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in a data science or data analytics role

  • Minimum 2 years of intensive experience with cloud-based Big Data, ML and Analytics technologies, preferably Databricks

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and implementing analytics on streaming data using technologies such as BigQuery is a plus

  • Experience with Data Visualization tools such as Tableau

  • Strong capabilities in SQL and experience working with structured and semi-structured data.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong capabilities in scripting languages such as Python

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with a proven record for identifying and diagnosing problems, and solving complex problems with simple, logical solutions

  • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information and concepts to multiple organization levels.

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or other quantitative disciplines such as statistics, mathematics, physics or engineering.
