Job description

Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
As an MLT, you will:

  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
  • Works alternate shifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services).
  • Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.
Preferred:
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
