Job Description

The University of Notre Dame invites applications for a faculty position within the College of Engineering, with a primary focus in the general field of Bioengineering. We are seeking researchers at the Associate or Full Professor rank who work at the intersection of biology and engineering. To support this cross-disciplinary search, the committee is comprised of members from the Departments of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME), Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE), Electrical Engineering (EE), and Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (CEEES). The successful candidate will lead a high-impact research program dedicated to solving fundamental challenges in human health and biotechnology. Duties will include teaching, research, and service. We are particularly interested in candidates specializing in the following areas:

  • Tissue Engineering, Disease Models, and Stem Cell Research
  • Diagnostic Tools and Devices with applications such as rural and distributed health care models
  • Frontiers in Bioengineering such as Space Bioengineering and Biocomputing

The environment for Bioengineering at Notre Dame is enriched by numerous cross-disciplinary institutes and centers, including:

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Engineering or a closely related discipline is required.

  • Candidates should possess a nationally or internationally recognized research program with a demonstrated history of high-impact publications and success securing external research funding, commensurate with academic rank.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain an innovative, externally funded research program with strong potential for continued growth and impact.
  • Commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, student mentorship, and curriculum development.
  • Evidence of meaningful contributions to the broader research community through leadership, collaboration, professional service, or other scholarly activities.
  • Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and intellectually vibrant academic environment.
  • The successful candidate will have qualifications appropriate for appointment at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank, consistent with the University of Notre Dame's standards for tenure and promotion.
