The purpose of this position is to maintain order and provide courtroom security through custody of inmates and control of courtroom activity and to act in the scope of a Jackson County Law Enforcement deputy providing law enforcement services. Provides courtroom security; maintains order in the courtroom during court proceedings; enforces courtroom decorum and standards; Performs preventative patrol of public and unlawful entry during proceedings Provides warnings to the public of courtroom etiquette and procedures; provides general information and direction to the public regarding courtroom proceedings Calls witnesses and escorts them to and from the courtroom as needed by the court Enforces the law; arrests and takes persons to jail; receives and supervises prisoners; escorts detainees to and from the courtroom and jail as needed by the court Provides assistance to the public in emergency situations; performs crowd control and security Responds to emergency/panic alarms; observes for, detects, and conducts security checks in courtrooms, courthouse, halls and all Jackson County facilities Conducts searches on individuals and of their items prior to court proceedings Identifies, collects, processes, packages and logs physical evidence Participates in bailiff/security officer training and development; maintains knowledge of law enforcement practices; court security policies and procedures Maintains incident logs and reports to sheriff's command staff Assists in verification of warrants; assist in collection efforts; makes deposits Conducts interviews and questions victims, witnesses, suspects and offenders Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations Serves arrest warrants, search warrants and other court documents Appears and testifies in court when summoned Other duties as assigned Qualifications and Education Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent Associate's Degree or a minimum of 60 college credits in police science or related field or grandfathered in per training and standards Certifications, Licenses, etc. Possess and maintain valid Wisconsin Driver's License that will allow unrestricted performance of Deputy Sheriff duties Valid Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer certification or be certifiable upon hire Knowledge Knowledge of police communication methods and techniques Knowledge of weaponry, public safety, and security operations, rules, regulations precautions, prevention, and the protection of people, data and property Knowledge of laws, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules and the democratic political process Knowledge of state statutes, county ordinances and other regulations which apply to county lands and facilities Skills Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in enforcement situations required Utilize effective communication skills;
